Microsoft says that Windows Vista will start and turn off in just 2/3 seconds, they say that will be like a turn on or off a T.V. One of the reasons to they say this is they developed a login script processed in background allowing to work in the PC while the otheres aplications load's. Reboot the system will be less used because the new "PC Mode" "hold mode".

lol, they can promise, but do they have it working to show to the public? It is nearly impossible for Windows to boot up that fast because it takes quite awhile for Windows to load the system files during the boot-up before the login. If this would actually work, you might as well get a dual core processor because the current AMD and Intel processors cannot multitask like what they promised, and may actually take you 3 - 5 minutes to fully login and able to use the system.

Which is great for we lazy people who hate waiting 2+ mins. for XP to load.

I can't wait to see what this new OS actually delivers (versus the bloated promises Gates & Co. are always making to us). I mean, I love Windows and all, but I can't help but see the differences between "ideal release" and "what we shuttled out of here a few days before the premeire just to shut you all up - oh and we'll de-bug later, so if you're one of the lucky few who got the brand-new OS on the street date, don't be surprised if it crashes a lot."

I dont like the way that you have to watch the disk activity light to know when your PC has finished booting in windows.

for exampl, you login, and the desktop shows, but the computer is un-responcive while other background proccesses load.

It would be nice if there was a message box, or better yet, the desktop didnt show itself untill the computer had fully booted.

Well since they're said to have to rewrite the whole source code it's just the question if they would get to that in the new release. Of course it would be nice, but aren't there a lot of problems if you could do that. I think the chance of crashes would be rather higher if you can already see the desktop before the programs are able to run?

I agree with qwijibow, it is not as good as Microsoft makes it sound like, after u press login, it might still take 2 minutes, in contrast. SuSE Linux 10.0 has now cut down Linux's boot up time from 3 min to about 1 min.

I reccon that what they say will be true. I mean, if they can do it with a television, then how hard can it be to do the same tthing with a computer? Especially Microsoft Windows, Bill gates has created lots of brilliant products in the past, this is probably a test or something for him and then he'll adapt this with other things like the X-box 360. Hopefully Microsoft Windows Vista will come out because it will be cool, but I wonder how much it will cost though?!?!

well, usually, Microsoft doesn't create its own stuff, usually stolen or bought off from.

Well a TV is a lot different to a pc, a TV just receives a signal but a pc has to boot up and run anything it has stored on it, I’m not believing it till I see it tongue.gif

Nah, I don't belive them. I don't know, if they are running Vista on a server farm, sure it'll boot in 2/3 seconds - second here second there.
Like qwijibow said, while booting windows load essentian files just for the login scrren comes out, and then it loads everything - services, your launching programs, drivers.. It takes forever -if you don't defragment your disk, and clean up the registry..
On the other hand - Linux - is better. It loads everything in it's boot period and when your kde or gnome loads you're ready to go, no unneccessery waiting.
Althouht when I boot my Slack I have a hotplug option on, so it takes him an additional 30sec to boot. A bit annoying, but you're ready afterwards.

Vista is another big hype, packed with features-you-can't-live-without-before-we-ripp-you-off. You need a DirectX 9 compatabile graphics card so you can run Vista with it's new look. The thing they don't realize that 90% users will be able to use Vista to the limit in about 3-4 years, and by that time we'll get Windows nXP -new eXPirience..
