Mr. Lockwood, a self-conscious american, has come up with an .... unusual ... idea: live shot. This is a way of hunting and shooting without getting out of chair. You pay a few bucks a month, log in and you start shooting, controlling a rifle with your mouse that is actually moving.
For now you can only shoot at targets (which you can also have them mail to you! only $9 and additional shipping fees To me, a clear case of americaness, or, to put it in a different, non-flaming way: "Only in America!" Live shot ![]() |

This has got to be the craziest of neat ideas.. while I was at university, I had to shell out about 6 pounds (that's brit currency) for one round at the shooting range.. all using .22 shells.. not much of a kick, but keeps the ol' shooting finger in shape..
now when I think about it.. I may not fancy the idea of shooting anything with my mouse.. game, target or skeet.. but to a lot of people, this may just be a fab idea.. like my dad for instance.. he's an avid game hunter.. or rather used to be one.. the situation in India and especially the North-East is such that it's neigh impossible to get out with one's rifle and do some blood sport.. now a guy like my dad has absolutely no idea about what to do with a computer.. this somehow seems like the perfect idea to get him to use a computer and enjoy it too.. becides .. since he's soon to retire.. perhaps he can sort out a system for people this side of the world to actually get some online shooting done.. the way this could really kick off around the world is if various service providers (shooting services) would provide, virtual reality systems, with a mock up plastic or other material rifle, that will actually peovide the feedback to the user... a person then just has to sprawl out on one's carpet and use this system to visit any location of his/her choice around the world (assuming this becomes popular enough) and do varied shooting, without all the noise, and without the hassle of leaving one's home.. hurrah..!! but whilever the gun is mounted to a computer... it cant move.
sooner or later the animals will realise that they only get slaughtered if they go in sight of the noise computer gun thing... unless of course all hiding place are removed, then the term "shooting fish in a barrel" comes to mind. ask most people who enjopy fishing why they do it... do they enjoy watching fish die ? or do they enjoy getting away from the desk, and floating in a calm peacefull boat and having a nice relaxing time. killing things by clicking a mouse.... play counter strike !! if i were a deer, i would be pretty p1$$ed off if the guy who killed me coundnt even be bothered to get dressed and get out of his bedroom |

Haha indeed. I think it's a ridiculous idea, but I thought it would be fun mentioning it.
Well, at least it's creative |

Now if you REEEALY wanted to make money of the geeks and gun-nuts, you should have one computer an Apple Macintosh, One a Pentium x86, and a 3rd AMD x86.
set them up in a triange facing into the center. how satisying will it be to shoot up a pentium machine for the AMD fans.... or to shoot up each of the x86 for the mac user ??? it will be a 3 way cowboy deul for people who dont like getting shot ! The Operating system / hardware wars would no longer need to be fought on online forums, but in the wild wild west ! EDIT: Patent Pending |

QUOTE(Qop @ Mar 24 2005, 04:35 PM) To me, a clear case of americaness, or, to put it in a different, non-flaming way: "Only in America!" 0.o I have to agree, doesn't going to a "computer" shooting range kind of take away from the whole point of going out to a live shooting range? It was mentioned before, but the whole point of going out and doing that kind of thing is to get away from your life and just take a break =P to do it from the computer doesn't really give you the same kind of release... |

I couldn't agree more with qwijibow. Although it is a smart idea, I don't see the point in going hunting, without even going anywhere. If you want to have fun shooting at stuff on your computer there's plenty of first person shooter games you can play... and I'd have to imagine a game would be a whole lot more fun as well. I don't see the fun in shooting a target out in some field that is miles away from you, and then not even having anything to show for it, unless you want to waste even more money to have the damn thing shipped to you. But what would be the point? It's not like it's a huge accomplishment that you shot this thing from your computer.
The guy who made this is smart, he'd be raking in the money now... but the concept is so stupid. Well I know I'd never consider doing it anyway, it seems stupid to me... I'd rather actually being out there and doing the work. |
