haha.. yeaah qwiji.. completely agree with you again.. What I'm going to say is so goddamned cliche - but I'll still go ahead and say it - "East Or West, Linux is the BEST".. lol.. (sic.) ..
anyways.. have you ever given QNX a try ? That's a damned good system too and the GUI (named Photon) is Ultra Smooth and fast. Only problem they don't have their drivers organized properly.. you'll have to look around all over the net.. Grab another of the free downloads at http://www.qnx.org . The .iso distro - runs directly off the CD (like Knoppix LiveCD or Lindows) except that this OS has been around much longer than those two. As also you can make a native installation from the same CD onto your HDD... The shell is pretty similar to bash - though with very little pre-configuration. They also had another ditro with a trmendously scaled down version of the same OS (surprisingly including the GUI) - that could run off a couple of 1.44meg floppies. I found the repository yesterday (something like openqnx.org) - but lost the link again. However, try googling for "smallest os with gui" and you'll get to the site - or else check the shoutbox for the link. It should be there somewhere in yesterdays shouts... All the best |

That's unfair becuase if you think about it, since they recieve lots of donations, and CDs cost about £1 shipped, it's actually not much money. If you don't believe it's any good just download the ISO and have a try, or even better, order the CD from their official website. |

It's good, but the trial I got from Linux User and Developer (UK) was messed up so my kernal had an error with the IO-APIC and the timer. So it was really slow, the official distro isn't supposed to have any issues, plus there is one for the AMD64 architecure! (that might be what my problem was, i used the reg.)
