I've TRIED to design a web template. -------it didn't work out. so i downloaded one, and the site has the COOLEST free web templates---------but I forgot the name. Anyway, could someone lend me some tips on how to make a template?

simply search for the word "templates" in astahost forum, you will see a lot of posts, each of them talking of a site with nice templates, like HTTP://WWW.TEMPLATEBOX.COM , LETHALTEMPLATES or websoup.org.

i like designing templates too, and as long as you like it, it doesn't matter how good they are

I like the ones from zymic.com, really nice. I tried some of them, and finally I prefer mines, whiche are less nice but are mines.
The ones from notemplates.com are far more beautyful, but are not free... |

Premium Templates, as the name suggests, does cost. But the others are free, and I downloaded - I do not know if I would use them though, when I start my site. |

Well You can have lots of attractive webtemplates from different site. But it is better that you make your own template. The main thing for making the template is choosing which software you want to use. There are also lots of software but I would recommend Adobe Photoshop 7 to make best webtemplate. I usually create a webtemplate from this software. And yes next the color combination. The color combination is most for the webtemplate. Black is the universal colot. It is a very attractive. Beside that you can choose millions of color from the photoshop.
the slicing is also needed. After creating the template then you can slice from adobe imageready and the template is ready Note that the most of the site is made frm the photoshop the resolution must be 72dpi |

you just have to be creative and willing to take risks..and you should be familiar with the softwares that you are using. of course, there's going to be those HORRIBLE templates, but it'll just help you more. go to sites and get ideas from them, but don't like..get everything from them. some sites will give you tips on graphics and stuff =] and make sure you have attractive colors
