New Introductions & Tests Of Custom Bbcodes
#1

I'm trying to introduce some custom BBCodes on this board in order to facilitate the layout & presentation of various kind of data (text, pictures, video clips) in your posts. Keep checking this post from time to time.
Here's a starter: A new BBCode called PICFRAME - which is an alternative for the lousy IMG tag. This allows embedding of extremely large pictures in your posts without distorting the page. The image appears within a small iFrame with both vertical & horizontal scrollbars. Initially the image will appear in reduced dimension - clicking on it will expand it inside the iFrame and the scrollbars come up letting you view the whole picture by scrolling. This also takes three options: left, right & center and aligns the image accordingly on your page.
See example below:
[PICFRAME=center]http://i138.exs.cx/i.../sunset43cb.jpg[/PICFRAME]

For the picframe tag though, while it is much better to have it in an iframe rather than hogging up the whole thread, I've seen a better one called the <screenshot></screenshot> tag. I'm not sure if you make these tags by yourself, but the screenshot tags works similar to picframe except it is not in an iframe. It just shrinks the image so that it fits in a 600x400 window or something, and then when you click on it it opens a new page to display the whole image.
It is much easier to click on a link to an image, than to try and scroll around a tiny iframe to see what the image is. Just my opinion.
Cheers

We have a new TABL tag that when used in conjunction with the TABROW & TABCOL tags can help you create a table and format data accordingly in your posts. It follows the general syntax of html table tags, i.e. your data has to be arranged in this format:
[ tabl ] [ tabrow ] [ tabcol ] Text1 [ /tabcol ] [ tabcol ] Text2 [ /tabcol ] [ /tabrow ] [ /tabl ] . That'll give you the following output:
| Text1 | Text2 |
Remeber, these three tags have to be used together. None of them, alone, can achieve any of the desired effects. This is still not fully functional. More modifications on the way. Will notify upon final release.
Following vujsa's idea, am renaming the TABROW and TABCOL tags to simply TROW & TCOL - that'll save up on the amount of typing to do..
Another new tag is HR used for inserting a horizontal rule/separator across your page. This tag takes the standard HTML <HR> options. Example: Line1 [ HR = noshade ] [ /HR ] Line2
This gives the following effect:
Line1
Line2
All the best & have fun playing with it.

Also is there any way to implement [spellcheck] and [grammarcheck] for those days when I don't feel like posting properly?

tag so it takes an argument as to the kind of code. Then change the image in the code box border to reflect this instead of always being "<?ph" as the beginning of php code. For example: [CODE = html]<html></html>would replace the "<?ph" image with "<htm" or something.
Uhm, yeah, sorry about that messed up post. Basically, what I was trying to say was modify the CODE tag, just pretend that the code box isn't there and that where it begins is the word CODE and the CODE box actually begins right before "<html>". Man I miss the edit button.

I've limited the text scroll area width - as it was expanding in a very undesirable way and distorting the page. But I haven't specified any height params, so you can put in as many lines of text as you want and the box will expand to fit it in. Keep in mind that this one takes a little time to start off - I mean the scroll action wouldn't start till the whole page load is completed.
Examples:
[MARQUEE=right]Left to Right Scrolling Text[/MARQUEE]
[MARQUEE=left]
Right to Left Scrolling Text.
With multiple lines of text.
I quite like this one
[/MARQUEE]

EDIT (as requested by vizskywalker 3/30/05): Never mind, the site doesn't hang when loading the post, it just takes a reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy long time. But it is still instantaneous for the reply. And for the post reading (not the reply) th marquee is choppy.

If you guys can come up with some real cool BBCodes (I hope the tut. I wrote will guide you on the right path) - there shouldn't be any problems incorporating them into the board. Infact, if you guys can study the codes I put it - and come up with improved versions of them - that's even better.
Have fun BBCoding
