Imagine a physically challenged patient without the help of a caregiver having a sip of coffee brought to him/her by a robot that was being controlled by the patient's thought itself. That reveals the innate beauty of this latest technology called Mind Control. This magnificent act of robot has been rendered possible by a tiny sensor about the size of a baby aspirin implanted in the brain of patient which monitored electrical activity of a few dozen brain cells. The chip then transferred information by sending signal to a computer that translated those signals into a valid command that armed the robot with adequate information to act so as to help the patient as required.
This same beautiful technology capable of bringing smile in the faces of millions of physically challenged people is also finding its worth in the battlefield. Its said that some Afghanistani soldiers possess sixth sense as they can wonderfully visualize way ahead signs of roadside bombs, disturbed earth or anything that is just out of the place resulting in a great difference in the battlefield by dragging someone from the claws of death.
Scientists are now set to equip every soldier with this ability to remain in a win- win situation. The device exploits what Neuroscientists call P300 wave that is significant of unconscious recognition of visual object.
300 basically signifies 300 milliseconds after which it stimulated. But still the threat remains as the brain can take several seconds to interpret what it has seen and these seconds can actually translate into death if not properly assessed on time.Electroencephalogram(EEG) comes to rescue as its capable of spotting P300 signal and when that is connected to a sophisticated computer can interpret and alert instantaneously.
