I happen to be a devout Firefox user, and ever since I've gotten it I have needed to use extensions to make my browsing experience better.

Where?
update.mozilla.org/ or extensionroom.mozdev.org/ or extensions.roachfiend.com.
Or try a google search.
How?
update.mozilla.org is automaticly on your allow list for installing software. To add a site to your allow list, click on tools/options/web features/allowed sites. Allow whichever site that you want to allow to this list. NOTE: Never allow a questionable site to install software on your computer.
Extensions to get
The extensions that I would highly reccommend would be the following:
Adblock
YOU MUST GET THIS EXTENSION. This extension allows you to delete any image or java or flash application that you do not like. You will never see these items again. You can also set filters, such as */ads/* or */banners/*. Adblock download
bugmenot
Ever get sick of having to register (for free) to a site to access some of it's features? Examples of this can be seen in newyorktimes.com. Bugmenot allows you to right click in a form and select "Bugmenot" to search the bugmenot database for a user who has decided share his screenname and password with the public. Bugmenot download
StumbleUpon
After you have been on the internet for a while, it may get boring. You may think that there aren't any cool sites left out there. Well you are WRONG. Fill out a quick form that asks you what you like, and click stumble and you are sure to find a cool site! Stumbleupon download

Hey, thanks for the great info. I've not really noticed that I needed to add any extensions to the software, but I did have one time that I needed to add a plugin to firefox. That is totally different from IE, where I was installing a plugin about every day. It got boring and maddening to say the least.

Hey I fiddled around with those extensions too - but can someone tell me if there's a way to DOWNLOAD them separately and plug them into firefox, coz I didn't manage to do so. Only way I figured is if you download them through firefox, in which case, they get unpacked and installed directly into the browser directory... But say if I reinstall my OS I need to re-download them again. What if I just download and keep all of them saved up -> how do I get firefox to find and install them then ??
Thanks

easy microscopic^earthling where is a short tutorial:

When you find and extension, it's have a extension .xpi, right click and download to your pc. (personally i recomend too http://www.extensionsmirror.nl)

ok, when you want to install the extension:

1) open firefox
2) Goto Tools Menu / Extensions
3) Drag the .xpi file to the extension windows
4) Click on Install and you have to restart firefox

That's, when you for example reinstall firefox, just find your favorites extensions and reintall it

Wooo.. it's THAT EASY ?? Thanks a lot deivid.. lol.. I'd tried everything except good old drag & drop.... And I was wondering all this while - why I couldn't use the downloaded extensions like Thunderbird, which lets you load the extensions off your hard drive.

Thanks :D

Ooh! I'm off to download this one immediately. I hate registering for sites with an account I'll never use again. Things like this is why FireFox is the best browser out there .. they truly take the cake with so many of their features. Go FF!

I didn't realize that bugmenot was available as a FF ext. I just had a link to their Web site on my FF toolbar folder. As for the other extensions: I use and love them. They're just a couple of more reasons why I've become a devout Firefox fan in the last few months especially.

Great info. And for those who regularly buy webdesigner magazine, a similar article was featured in there, but with about 3 more pages of detail.

I think everyone should also have the fasterfox extension. https://addons.mozil...ication=firefox
It significantly speeds up firefox and tweaks the performance of it too. It does work because I have compared regular firefox with all the same features as firefox without fasterfox on one computer, and firefox that is exactly the same as the other one except for the fact that it had fasterfox on it. I tested them both with the same internet, and i tried about 4 tests because i had to switch some variables around, and my results proved the same thing on all the tests. The fasterfox extension makes firefox significantly faster, and the internet connection last longer, and connect better even though it doesn't seem possible to make the internet connection connect better, fasterfox does it. It is a very good extension. I dont use firefox without it.

jake, what kind of net connection do you have? Usually those types of things impact 56k's much more then high speeds...

I used to use bugmenot all the time, forgot about it recently since I installed firefox on a clean system. I'll have to grab it again and try out those new ones. I used to be big into extensions but I don't use as many now, still have quite a number. Usually I like to keep a weather tracker extension for forcasts, a css viewer, some enhanced page source viewing extensions, and some menu modifiers. Porbably a couple others but nothing amazing really. They sort of rotate too as I get bored of some and pick up new ones haha. Thats the great thing about the extensions too, you can use them as long as you want them then just disable them if you want them gone,

I have a cable and a wireless, 10mbps connection... I would get a better one but I really can't afford it right now. Besides I think 10mbps is alright, even though i wish I had better. But I definatly don't have 56k, and my connection is fairly fast for a wireless 10mbps. The extension still effects me a little though. It was hard to see the difference the day I tested it but I found it. (I was very bored that day.)

That's cool then. Like I said usually people who say these boosters have an awesome speed increase... it means pages load in a minute rather then 2 haha. But yea if it actually boosts speeds noticeably on a high speed connection I'll have to check it out :o

:o yeah. It does help a little, and if your connections out, firefox will be the first thing regain internet access even when your connection says it's not there.

I posted a list of extensions I use here: http://www.astahost....ons-t11366.html

Could you guys go to that topic and add the extensions you guys like?
In about a week or so I am going to make it a poll to find out what the best extension is. I also recommend you install most of the extensions on my list, especially fasterfox. (it is a must)
