I was surfing the web, checking out some good host, when I bumped into Terrahost. I know there are many hosts that ask for a lot of money for their services, but this one has really shocked me. The plans this host offers are pathetic, whereas the prices are extremelly high.

Here's what I mean:

QUOTE
* 5Mb Web space
* 2,000Mb transfer per month
* Domain name or sub domain name
* FTP Access
* 1 mail account @yourdomain.com

$12.95/Month - $30 Setup
$155/Year - $30 Setup

Source: http://terrahost.com/hosting.html

That's the worst package: only 5MB of space and 2GB of bandwidth (who would need that much?). No PHP or any other advance options. The price? Only $155 a year?!?!? If that's not a rip-off, I don't know what is!

For the same amount of money you can get hell of a lot better hosting at Computing Host. For $9.99 a month you get 5.4GB space and 99GB bandwidth. Hm, which host would I choose..?

Things become even worse when you look at the "best" package.

QUOTE
* 50Mb Web space
* 10,000Mb transfer per month
* Domain name or sub domain name
* SSI support
* PHP3 support
* Java servlet support
* Telnet access
* FTP access
* mSQL support
* MySQL support
* URL spelling corrector
* 1 mailing list
* 2 password protected directories

$39.95/Month - $60 Setup
$480/Year - $60 Setup

50MB? Still not enough. 10GB bandwidth? The only good things here, as far as I am concerned. PHP3??? Oh my, isn't that a bit.. OLD!?! And with all those "advantages" you pay only $480 a year. Sounds like a good offer, doesn't it? Well, it doesn't.

My advice is, stay away from this host. I would be suprised if I found out they have any users at all. The offer is awful and the sky is the limit to the prices. Why use this host? I have no idea.

You've got to be kidding. I can't believe there is someone who charges so much for webhosting, basic webhosting at that! Maybe these guys are still in the stoneage when webhosting used to cost a bundle biggrin.gif.

Some companies have a very specialized clientelle.

We for example, I have seen $60 Cdn for one company, in a marketplace where the going rate is $20.

As part of Terrahost upgrade plans, our Web Hosting services are now powered by Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

It should be the website of an old webhost that no longer is updated.

Wow! I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a good VPS account for that price! 5 megs!!! I think that's about what I used to have when I had an MSN group 7 years ago! You can tell that this is just designed to rip off n00bs who want a "cool" site to show their friends and automatically assume they need to pay for hosting! Very, very sad.

Ooh, they are now offering a WHOPPING 15 MB! That's right, folks, they just improved their hosting service by 300% for the same unbelievable price of ... drum rolls ... $155/year + $30 setup.

Of course, I'm being sarcastic. I also noticed that the website's bottom menu does not work. I suspect the site was created by an amateur or someone who is trying to break into the hosting business, but who does not have good insight into the current market. I wonder how many customers it has. On the other hand, it would a shame if this was one of those pre-built websites + hosting combos that was sold to some unsuspecting newbie on eBay hoping to start a web business. In any case, there are scam artists everywhere.

I guess the owner must be using a 10Gb Hard Drive to host these sites... and he's hoping to buy a new system soon and provide his costumers tons of storage space and new features. It's one of the few possible explanations for this 'joke'. Ok, it's a stupid one, but still...
