Follow the simple steps to virus proof your pc.
1. Make sure you have a clean boot CD handy at all times. Your original operating system installation CD should be bootable, so that will do. 2. If your anti-virus has an option of making a bootable CD, take some time off to make one of those. You will appreciate the effort if the need ever arises. 3. Use a well-reputed anti-virus software and update it daily. 4. Make sure your anti-virus automatically scans any newly inserted discs for viruses, especially if you tend to exchange data between your office and home computers. 5. Avoid opening mails with attachments unless you’re absolutely sure they are from trusted sources. 6. If you’re using an e-mail client on your computer such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird, disable the message preview pane. This way you can filter the messages you open by the sender’s name or the subject line. 7. Keep all your documents and important programs backed up on a CD, or any other storage media. QUOTE Taking these steps won’t guarantee that you stay virus-free, butyou will surely be more protected and prepared for a virus attack.

I would like to add to that list:
- Know exactly what processes need to be running on your PC by their technical names. - While you work, check that list every so often with the process viewer of your choice (I like Process Explorer since it shows who the software vendor is for each process) - Question the legitimacy of every new entry. - When in doubt, start your antivirus software and select the option to scan active processes. |

- Don't use IE, or even better, don't use Windows.
- Don't visit any stupid sites and just download everything they offer you. |

Thanks for all the above information friends. I would like to mention some tips you can follow --
1. If u have downloaded a small file(usually sent via mail), check it using http://www.virustotal.com. It checks the file using Various Anti-virus Engines like Avast, Bitdefender, Quick-Heal, AVG and many others. Have at look below - QUOTE VirusTotal is a service that analyzes suspicious files and facilitates the quick detection of viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware detected by antivirus engines. Specs: * Free, independent service * Use of multiple antivirus engines * Real-time automatic updates of virus signatures * Detailed results from each antivirus engine * Real time global statistics 2. Try to download files only from trusted sources. 3. If u feel any suspicious activity, you can check your system using online antivirus scanner like - Trendmicro, Panda You can give a try to UBCD4win as a boot CD, its full of tools. |
