This isn't technically an infared filter, it just looks red. For it to be truly infared, it'd have to actually filter out the infared spectrum, which I'm guessing this does not. Nice try though.
One should still be careful about looking up at the sun, as it's the ultraviolet rays to be worried about, not infared. |

While it is possible to kill the data, if you can manage to put the disk back together your chances are probably minimal. Floppies use magnetic storage, and shining light through them is not likely to kill the data too much.
