I am having a hard time keeping up my posts here at Astahost. I think it is a little more advanced than I am. From what I gather, Trap17 is less technical in nature. When I went to the websites for Asta and Trap, they were essentially the same except for maybe bandwidth and MB. Is that info up-to-date? Is it possible to switch a hosted Astahost account to a Trap17 account without having to go through all the 'post until you have enough credits' thing again?

I have never tried registering at Trap17. But I have registered myself at tonnes of other websites for free stuff or info. Usually, you can just write whatever that you want. Hehe..... Some forms would do a check on whether your address and the telephone number matches, like the international code and area code, so just make sure that it matches. Not that hard to do. The only companies that are really serious about such info are usually companies that deal with finance, money. Some of them would actually call you up to verify the info, so don't mess around with them.

I'm sorry but I'm just a new member here. I'm tired of my current host due to downtimes that is why I'm shifting here. I read the intro and all info., posts on Trap17 and Astahost. However, there are some questions of me that is not yet answered here. I hope someone will answer it.

Here it goes:
These questions also APPLIES TO TRAP17 AND ASTAHOST

1. What kind of physical connection do you have to the Internet? And how many hops are you to the backbone?

2. Do you use any UPS incase of power outages?

3. Do you guarantee that your hosting service will be up for a long time if not forever by means of just using ads?

4. When did you create Astahost? And could you tell me statistics or percentage of your server uptimes since then? Did you experience any severe downtimes since you started this free hosting deals?

Below will be my personal questions:

1. I'm planning to post 10 GOOD POSTS. But I won't apply for the hosting yet, let's say I'll be away for about a month and then I'll apply. Will be the last month's 10 post counts to get starter package?

2. I'll be using a subdomain first but can I shift to a domain hosting without reposting again?

3. You did not state on this website about how many storage and bandwidth do I get with my starters package?

Sorry for the long questions. I hope it will be answered.

Astahost an Trap17 - both are like sister sites - both of them offering free hosting in exchange of good posts, though the terms and regulations as to what constitutes a good posts - differs slightly on these two boards. The posting rules vary too - but all marginally. I believe, Trap17 was opened first and then came Astahost. There's yet another hosting solution named ComputingHost.Com which offers extremely low-priced paid hosting plans for those who do not want to involve themselves with the forums and don't care about free hosting. All these sites spawned one after the other and all fall into an ever-expanding network of sites under the master brandname Xisto. Hope this helps you get a picture of whats going on

I got approved for hosting today (thanks nilsC), and I was about to create my account, when I realized that the links provided under his reply:



Were, as you can see, the same exact link, but one named for astahost activation, and the other for trap17 info.

Now the info on the page is great, but when I enter my desired subdomain under the .astahost.com sub on the registration page ([url}http://www.astahost.com/process/create_account.htm[/url]), it gives me an error saying that the desired subdomain is not a trap17 SD (duh ).

Guess what I'm looking for if I can get a .astahost.com subdomain with my account, or if I have to take a trap17 SD.

And if anyone yells at me about not searching for the a previous topic, I poked my nose around the first three pages in this sub-forum, re-read the rules (found it's not against rules to not use the search function ), and could not find the info I needed, hence the post.

Maybe you just need sometimes until your mycent info's being updated. If you still can't see your mycent 'till tomorrow, then you could submit a ticket to xisto helpdesk.

I have a little VB App that will ask for your username and password, and will give you an "access key" once you get the right info, this is pain-stakingly easy (heck, you don't even need to know the username and password - big hint. ), but, this is just to rev up your engines, as this is part 1 of my four part VB/PHP/MySQL/C++ Cracking Challenge.

I got this message when I tried to make my account for hosting today:

There were problems creating your account! Please Contact Administrator.

And then it printed out this info:

The /usr, /, or /var partition on
this server is running out of disk space.
This WHM operation has been
temporarily suspended to prevent something bad from happening.
Please ask your system admin to remove any files not in use on that partition.

I used the MSN search today and here are the things I liked to point out.

MSN search does not seem to give high preference to domain names while most of the other search engines do. For eg. Searching for a non-english keyword trap17 should have resulted in trap17.com in the first place but instead more preference was given to another websites which were linking to trap17.
This could had been fine with some other keywords which had some meaning in english language, however this point was like one of the most downside of msn. Because, most of the msn searches are triggered by the web browser itself ( internet explorer ) and many a times, mistyped domain names or keywords should be searched for and corresponding domain names should be returned.

This also has negative effects. There are many domain names which correspond to commonly used search keywords. Like free web hosting, I think there are more than 50 sites whose domains have these words in it. But, in such cases msn can do an advanced filtering to see which domain actually has a lot of info regarding the keywords and it can return the results.

Second flaw, The search results are not sorted in page numbers so if you are going to find search more and more pages, you will have to rely on the Back and Next search links. That is rather crappy.

Third, It takes a very long time before your site appears in MSN search. I really hate this fact. Google includes any site with in a week and starts showing its indexed contect within a month or two. While most of the search engines including msn take about 6-7 months. I dont know. wtf takes them such a long time. I hope the new msn search will take pretty less time to index sites.

Also, the web site description returned by msn search is simply extracted from the title tags which may be good in some cases but most of the people ( when using frontpage ) forget to put that . And I saw some pages with descriptions of no more than 3 words. While the best way for extracting description would be get the highest keyword which occurs throughout the page and then extract a text of about 100 words which includes that keyword. I had used this method when I had created a search engine in perl ( a text file driven Search :-).

MSN search definately requires a lot of improvement.

Also you can only have one hosting either from trap or astahost, but you can still post useful information and what not.

Well although its possible to cross brand accounts by just copying the db info from asta and then put it on trap and then visa versa.
