Author: silentkarma Total-Replies: 1 I am currently using a MySQL/PHP site. How would I go about transfering my whole site without losing any information or files? Do I just make a backup and upload it to the new server? I also need to transfer the php files, so would I just download them and upload them again? Would I have to install my portal again [e107]? Need help!

Author: curare Total-Replies: 4 Hi, forgive me please if this has been posted before, I have searched the site for it, but as the search parameters in this case are three letter words, it did not yield any result. And yes, I also used searches with words in quotes, but those did not yield results either. When I want to transfer files from my former website to my new one here, I can download them from there and upload them here. If I do not have a local copy that is. But just to make sure that all the revisions of PHP and HTML files are in place, I would prefer to use FXP. Which is something like "File eXchange Protocol", a subset of the FTP protocol if I am not mistaken. Basically, it transfers files directly from one site to another. All that you send and receive is the commands, but not the files themselves. Now when I do this using Flash FXP, which is a superb FTP client, I get an error message like CODE[02:36:31] [L] PASV [02:36:31] [L] 227 Entering Passive Mode (213,202,241,26,160,174). [02:36:32] [R] PORT 213,202,241,26,160,174 [02:36:32] [R] 500 Illegal PORT command [02:36:32] Site to Site Transfer Failed! (Attempting alternative method) [02:36:33] [R] PASV [02:36:33] [R] 227 Entering Passive Mode (64,69,46,210,208,235). [02:36:34] [L] PORT 64,69,46,210,208,235 [02:36:34] [L] 500 Illegal PORT command [02:36:34] Site to Site Transfer Failed! [02:36:34] [R] Transfer Failed! Now, error code 500 stand for "Syntax error, command unrecognized. This may include errors such as command line too long." If I understand if right, and please correct me if I don't, the command PORT is not recognized by the server. My question is: Is this done deliberately in the setup of the server or is my client the problem? I know from experience, that some site ops do not permit site to site transfers because of security reasons. This is NOT acomplaint, please don't get it wrong. No problem for me to first d/l and then u/l. I am just asking out of the curosity of a FTP veteran.

Author: nunocordeiro Total-Replies: 9 Hi. I'm thinking of transferring my website to astahost, but I stumbled upon a problem. In your TOS, it is stated that hosted websites must be in English. My website, which is Joomla based, is a community site with two languages, Portuguese and English, with Portuguese being the default language. So, I'd like to know if these rules are final or if a Portuguese website could be accepted. I'm not expecting you to just open an exception because I asked you to, but it would be cool if you could expose some conditions by which I could abide to get my wish. I'm a software engineer with very decent communication skills and I could be a good contributor to this community..... if you allow me to be a part of it =) Thanks.

Author: Houdini Total-Replies: 1 I am running a PHP-Nuke site on a web host that only allows one database so if I wanted to use a forum also in addition to PHP-Nuke I must use different prefixes. My PHP-Nuke has 112 tables and I am setting up an almost identical site minus any other forums, just PHP-Nuke 7.7 on Astahost which allows many databases, so I sucessfully exported my users, and my categories, and the posts, and I even exprted the posts text as well as the download categories and download text tables. The problem I am having is that on the Astahost the forum categories are are shown along with the number of posts in each but the problem is thatonly the first category with three posts has any real posts, even though looking at the table for the posts text it is all ther, but when you click a post in these other categories then it states that they don't exist. Anyone got any ideas as to why this could be happening?

Author: Jimmy89 Total-Replies: 5 Hi All, I'm back after a while and am starting my hosting again on the new system. I have setup a new account on the new system, using my old subdomain (cubed.astahost.com). My account has been approved by the xisto support site and now when i go there, i get the suspended page, probably cause my hosting credits (old system) is sitting at about -170. I am also assuming that I cannot log in to my cpanel because I am still suspended. Thanks

Author: raneri Total-Replies: 0 Hi all, I have a client (church) who I am making a Mambo site for. THing is that they do not want any down time in the move from old to new, not even just an hour while I load content. I need to know if it is possible to create a whole Mambo site on one server, and then transfer it (via ftp) to another server. -How hard is it to reconnect the database? -If all the installed files are moved, does it matter that the new server never went through an "install?" -will the configure file open up on the new server so that I can change the site information? ANy other things that I need to know?

EDIT: Changed my site: http://www.ronel2.ph.gd Sadly...can't host it at astahost yet. I would really appreciate if you would donate

Author: everydaysushi Total-Replies: 14 I have a folder of 50 mb worth of pics that I need to transfer to my friend for a photo project. Now, I was trying to zip it but no matter what zip program I used, it barely decreased the size. Are pictures just not zippable? Also, are there any free image-hosting sites that allow larger file sizes? I normally use imageshack.us, but that limits file sizes (like most free hosting sites). I even looked into free websites, but most of them limit files sizes to be uploaded. The only other option we're trying now is transfer via AIM, but that's hard because it's hard to be online at the same time. So it'd be great to have some kind of online "depository" ...or at least be able to zip these things!! Notice from microscopic^earthling: Wrong section. Moved to Internet & Websites

Author: milky Total-Replies: 5 XML is quickly becoming the universal protocol for transferring information from site to site via HTTP. Whereas, the HTML will continue to be the language for displaying documents on the Internet, the developers will start using the power of XML to transmit, exchange, and manipulate data using XML. XML offers a very simple solution to a complex problem. It offers a standard format for structuring data or information in a self-defined document format. This way, the data are kept independent of the processes that will consume the data. Obviously, the concept behind XML is nothing new. XML happens to be a proper subset of a massive specifi- cation named SGML developed by W3C in 1986. The W3C began to develop the standard for XML in 1996 with the motivation that XML would be simpler to use than SGML but that it will have more rigid structure than HTML. Since then, many software vendors have implemented various features of XML technologies. For example, Ariba has built its entire B2B system architecture based on XML, many Web servers (such as Weblogic Server) utilize XML specifications for configuring various server related parameters, Oracle has included necessary parsers and utilities to develop business applications in its 8i/9i suites, and finally, the .NET has also embraced the XML technology. XML contains self-defined data in document format. Hence it is platform independent. It is also easy to transmit a document from a site to another site easily via HTTP. However, the applications of XML do not necessarily have to be limited to conventional Internet applications only. It can be used to communicate and exchange information in other contexts, too. For example, a VB client can call a remote function by passing the function name and parameter values using a XML document. The server may return the result via a subsequent XML document. Basically, that is the technology behind the SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol). what u think about it?

Seeing as our sites are going to be down for quite a while, shouldn't Hosting Credits be frosen where they are or something, after all, we a re effectively paying for nothing.
