Hmm, so did most of the topics have a cleanup or something in astahost forums? I had ~35$ and I don't really remember doing something, now it's 27.81$ or did the hosting prices change or something, where did the ~8$ disappear?

I can't remember how I came upon this site - but it's hilarious. They call themselves Microsuck and the site is the closest and most daring imitation of the main Microsoft.Com site interface. Their mission statement seems to be: The Microsoft Eradication Soceity.

The site is all about providing you with as many alternatives as you can find to using Microsoft products - specially OSes. They've got a whole bunch of cool and funny articles going on about why you should abandon MS products and use something else. Also hosted are a cart load of taunting interviews & live-coverage of speeches of real-world people.. the big shots in various companies including MS.

When I discovered Astahost I thought I had found a very unique place for my hosting needs. Not only was the concept a cool one, but the prices for paid hosting was low. That was when I first discovered the site. The old saying that "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is", definately holds true here.

On Saturday, August 13 (yesterday), my credits were suddenly reduced from 31 to 13 for no apparent reason. I also lost use of my domain for most of the afternoon and early evening as well as my FTP access. This is the second time in the one week period I have used Astahost that I have lost access to the site. So, my planned upgrade was suddenly gone and I wanted to know what had happened to make me loose these credits. The only explanation I have been able to get from anyone, including the Admin department is that possibly some of my posts were deleted because they were probably spam. So, I checked it out and all of my posts are still here. I wrote the admin and asked them to show me what posts were deleted, or otherwise explain the loss of credits and I received a message saying that Astahost does not have any automation to track the posts (which is contrary to the help topics) and that humans spend their free time making this site work and I should just accept it and move on. In other words, when you loose credits it could be human error and that is good enough of an explanation. Funny thing about this message is that they just do not want to give me an explanation as to the loss of credits, or they cannot give me one, and they just don't give a crap whether it irritates me or not.

So, I get a nice little re-inforcement of how true that statement above is. If it is too good to be true .......

The only problem with that is that Astahost promoted this site a certain way and claim to be the best, and they do not back it up. They don't even make excuses or lie about it. Their answer is simply "too f%$$ing bad. CASE CLOSED!

I give you Astahost's own promotion of their service ......

While there are many other companies that offer free web hosting services, most of them have lot of hidden terms or limitations which are not disclosed openly. .....
AstaHost does not fall in all such things and provides you genuine free web hosting without overselling. So you can be assured that your free web hosting account is safe and won't face any problems due to server flooding or any other reasons because we do not oversell at all. .....
The reason is, these companies purposely create limitations even though they can provide, so that their consumers eventually transfer to more high valued account gradually. Since our main income is not from Paid hosting, we don't care about it and we offer every hosting service absolutely Free. .....

Since Astahost does not provide any explanation of why credits vanish into thin air, and get irritated if you dare to ask for an explanation, there is no way a person can use the hosting here and count on anything. Maybe the upgrade is what they are trying to avoid. There is a better way to represent this site on your home page. That would be, "use the hosting services here at your own risk".

Now, we'll see if this post is actually deleted. And, if I loose my credits for this post, well at least I will know why!

Not true point on traffic, ahsan. If this update is going to put us on page 2-3 or 4 then that's equal to traffic from the secondary search engines. It's going to be hard in either case. You can invest in your site to get visitors but google will allow users to filter sites irrespective of that. In such cases you are going to get less traffic anyway. I hope you know about that google addon ? That is going to help many people to filter bad sites (as per them), many black hat owners are starting gigs on microworkers to block the competitor sites. isn't this mayhem ? I mean competitors will now give money to average search engine users to block us ? what's the point of using google then ? Still all is not lost, atleast some pages are on page 2, 3 or 4. Imagine how much loss hubpages, xomba, squidoo got after this update. How average site that you hold is not going to affect in that case ? Afterall you're ranking for medical keyword and ehow, livemind, livestrong are in way to knock you down, isn't it ?

60% traffic percentage of google are going to decline soon because of their current quality of search engine. So its not going to be the same. You know the wave in technology industry, if few people start to switch to other search engines, rest follows. It is happening right now.

By following guidelines of any one search engine religiously hardly helps. I mean seriously many brand sites or blogs don't follow standards of google and they don't get much traffic from them either. Still their traffic is sustainable to earn them money. My point is even if that helps i;m not going to follow fanboi pattern for google when black hat sites without following any rules of google earning more.

I can understand your analogy with facebook, but unless you become brand this one is going to be tough fight. I mean there are some strong competitors are there against you and google will always favor those instead of you, isn't it ? So brand and social media power should be your tool isn't it ? That's my point. I know you think google traffic is free or cheap and easy to acquire. But point is if you get slapped in this update to page 4 or so. What's the difference it's going to make between your site's traffic coming from say yahoo or bing or blekko ? nothing. My point is there is hardly any point in monetizing for google.

If you're dependent on google for search traffic then you need to change your strategy. Because as i said previously, any other competitor can knock you down by all possible ways or even by building a brand. I know that your bounce rate is 85% and it's helping you but do you think you're earning from it to sustain hosting, or the earning goal that you need ? If it is then by all means rely on google. If you're getting less than 2$ per day from google then you need to diversify. Relying google for earning is one big mistake. That's my point. Anyway, rest is your call.

4> Do you feel that the facilities provided by this host is enough for you. If not, what do you require.
5> Do you require Cpanel. [ We provide the most advanced cpanel ]
6> Can you comprise Cpanel with more hosting facilites like space and BW.


Please keep in mind when you suggest about posting stuff. Every account we give out is expensive and costs $30 anually. Therefore, we need member's to be active. So If you have any suggestions in which member's can be active as well as we can give them hosting with minimum initial requirements, please tell us.

Suggest about our system and things that you feel. If you feel that our system ( requirement of initial good posts ) is wrong or if you think that there can be some other conditions by which both may benefit, please suggest them.

Meh, that's ok, I don't use seamonkey anyways.

It looks like I may have to put off the puppy linux usage for a bit: on Thursday, my computer became infected with a host of malware, so I've been dedicating most of my time to cleaning that. (Ironically, since becomming infected, my computer has not received a single BSOD, other than one due to the fact that one of my virus scanners had quarantined Winlogon.exe previous to a reboot.)

This is...Wow...You really must be talented in this area of Herbology? I got referred to this article when you posted in the hosting support section and after reading this, i can tell you've really placed alot of effort into this. It's definitely an A++++ for my Biology report if i do this.

Overall though, what I'm interested in is the part about the St. John's Wort killing off HIV.

Well, Used IE, Firefox and Opera and currently stick to Firefox. Why, later I'll explain.

IE comes with Microsoft Windows and guess everyone used it at least once. I guess. IE 6 is pretty light and have enough features to just browse. When comes to IE 7, its quite heavy in the loading, but the speed for the site loading seems to be faster. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Later part when I get into web development, pages that I've developed in IE 7 can't display the same as what I've expected in IE 6. CSS problem. And of course totally go out of place in Firefox. (Don't know what is going on) Soon I've realized that CSS problem with IE and Firefox conflicts. Need to have a set of CSS for IE and Firefox. IE doesn't follow WC3 standards.

When comes to putting google map on the site I've created for my project. It didn't work. Why? Apparently IE loads the page first, then the google map. So need special scripting to make it work. Whereby Firefox just work perfectly. It just takes me so much time to figure that out. Especially google map can't be tested on localhost. You need to upload to web hosting as there's some KEY required for that to work.

So currently just stick to Firefox for surfing. Cool browser, add-ons and its faster than IE. You can do everything with just firefox. And I mean everything. But I've no choice as to still stick to IE for web development. Statistics shows that 80% of the population in my country still uses IE6. But anyway, just some stuff to share.

yeah right, and how is microsoft going to change that sysinfo so that no one will be able to hack? let's take a look at their track record. it sucks. of course that's because they're the most popular OS...it would be the same for Linux or Mac if they were as common. every fix that comes out, the hackers are always one step ahead. read about the hacker wars microsoft hosted? the hackers broke through. i think the more 3rd party security software you use, the better your chances of foiling the hackers are.

As i right this, im swatting at a huge fly buzzing round my head using a hair brush, but i assure you, as far as i know, i am not insane.

One night, after a few exams, too tired to sleep, i was laying in the dark listening to my Mp3 player with headphons. the song was by a band called "Red Hot Chilli Peppers", the song was called "By the way"

Its the first time ive heard that song in years, ive only ever heard it in rock city whilst quite drunk.
Instead of the usual memor that come flooding back, in my half asleep state, possably dreaming i was 80 years old, still had the mp3 player, it still had the same songs, because computers with USB slots didnt exist anymore. And i was listning to be, beeing reminded of my youth.

So i wake up, and start consdering the possability that time has suddenly reversed 60 years.

( i read a study once about how tiny quantum particles being affected by future events, causality before cause, the end conclusion was that time doesnt move forward smoothly, it goes backwards a bit, forwards a bit, a bit like a mad random quantum pendulum, ofcourse, being slaves to time, we dont notice, as time goes backwards, we move backwards, memory are un made, etc etc etc)

So knowing i was about to jump back to beeing 80 years old, i wanted to have anouther experiance as a 20 year old. I cant wake up my parents (they will think im mad) and tell them i need to talk because in 40 years they will be dead and i wont get anouther chance.

time is running out... what to do ? Thats when i saw my radiator, a bit the corner of it, (hurting my tooth a little, when im 80 i may no have any teeth)

Now thinking about what ide just done, i had to get up, turn the lights on, and think how normal this is. i know im not insane, im just thinking, beeing philosophical. (the fly is now on my monitor)

I went into the garden (it was about 3am by now, we have had a new sofa delivered, the old one is in the back garden) it would be fun to sit, watch the summer sun rise, in a big comfortable sofa, in the back garden, contemplating life the universe and everything.

This is when i started thinking about computers, and virtual machnes. X86 emulators.

Inside a real computer, you can run a virtual computer.
The virtual computer isnt real, but it can do real things, real maths etc.
Th only rule, is the virtual machine cannot have more memory, or be more powrfull than the host computer. (its more stupid)

Virtual machines can in turn run virtual machines, the same rule applies.
this virtual machine isnt even running on a real machine.

the pretend machine, is pretending to run a pretend machine, and yet the maths are real, accurate, and correct,

What if, we froze time, and magnified a living human bran by a trillion zillian times.
and spent all eternaty making an exact copy. same electrical resistance, same wireing, same everything. we make a perfect copy of a brain. both braisn in the same fireing pattern and electrical and cheical activity, not a single electron out of place.

wont both brains function ?

Now, building this brain is too hard... lets simulate it in a computer, pefrect simulation, perfect physics engine, perfect everything.

wont the brain continue to function ?

the chemicals in the brain arnt real, the brain cells the the chemical are acting on arnt real, but the simulation simulates the reaction perfectly.

Now get rid of the computer.

Lets say there is a super intelligent beeing with a super intelligent mind.
This super intelligent mind Imagines anouther mind, much less intelligent... but it imagines this mind so acuratly, that this mind functions... its self aware, it feels love, is scared to die... the imaginary mind is not real, but the self awareness, and the mouitions are real.

What if I, (and you, and our whole universe) are the imagination, of a super intelligent mind, which is in turn the imagination of an even grater mind... GOD for example.

We Could all be self aware, but we are nothing more than the imagination of somthing else.
The whole universe is a mind... or possably the imagination of a mind.

an Insane mind, born deaf, blind, no sensory input... fed through a drip, gone insane, and imagined the universe in its diluded, drunken self.

I dont hear voices in my head, but some do, they call it a mental ilness... are those voices self aware ? even on some much lower scale than we are ?
