Author: uNiT Total-Replies: 3 My friend recently took a physics test, and was stumped on a problem. It was a random problem not related to their current subjects, and here it is: Problem: You hear a tone and you recognize the frequency as 243Hz. You hear another one, but don't know the frequency, but you count the beats of the combined tones as 24 beats in 3 seconds. What is the frequency of the second tone? (In formula sheet, you have: f_beat = |f1 - f2| ) He came up with 235. The closest choices on the answer sheet were 264 and 226. Here was my attempt at solving.. QUOTEfbeat = |f1 - f2|fbeat = |243 - x| fbeat = fb Remember that Frequency = Occurances / Time; and that Hz is over a period of 1 second so.. fb = O/C fb = 24/3s fb = 8bps or fb = 8hz so 8hz = | 243 - 235 | x = 235? But then we see thats wrong, proving me to be stupid. So lets say there was a second in between the beats. fb = O/C fb = 24/2 fb = 12hz 12hz = 243 - 239 Still doesn't work. Hmm...Well but lets say the teacher errored in his positioning of the absolute values. In which case we could wonder if.. -12hz = 243 - 255 255 isnt on the answer sheet either? So damn...what about averages? say fb = average of f1 - f2. 8 = 243 - f2 / 2 243 - 227 = 16 x = 227? So ive come up with x = 235, 239, 255, and 227. 227 is very close to 226. Regardless, I think this is the professors error Any ideas?

Author: planettech9 Total-Replies: 3 QUOTEA database management system provides the ability for many different users to share data and process resources. But as there can be many different users, there are many different database needs. The question now is: How can a single, unified database meet the differing requirement of so many users?A DBMS minimizes these problems by providing two views of the database data: a logical (external) view and physical (internal) view. The logical view/user's view, of a database program represents data in a format that is meaningful to a user and to the software programs that process those data. That is, the logical view tells the user, in user terms, what is in the database. The physical view deals with the actual, physical arrangement and location of data in the direct access storage devices(DASDs). Database specialists use the physical view to make efficient use of storage and processing resources. With the logical view users can see data differently from how they are stored, and they do not want to know all the technical details of physical storage. After all, a business user is primarily interested in using the information, not in how it is stored. One strength of a DBMS is that while there is only one physical view of the data, there can be an endless number of different logical views. This feature allows users to see database information in a more business-related way rather than from a technical, processing viewpoint. Thus the logical view refers to the way user views data, and the physical view to the way the data are physically stored Notice from Yordan: Please do not post copied text on this forum. Author: sandeep Total-Replies: 4 hi all, Have you ever wondered that why there is two level of addressing in OSI model? If IP address can identify any machine acrosss networks then what's the need of Physical Address. Theoretically Data Link layer transfers data to adjacent node by using physical address, but that can also be done by using IP address. Have you ever pondered about that point? Here's what i think. Initially computers were connected using various different LAN topologies like token ring , ibm sna , ethernet, etc All these tech. correspond to data link layer and had there own addresses [ mac addrress in case of ethernet.] Now these networks using diff. lan tech. were incompatible with each other ie. u can't interconnect a network using token ring to a network with ethernet because both uses diff. adressing scheme to identify computers on lan. To solve this problem a neutral adressing scheme was required which was to be independant of lan tech . and sit above icompatible lan tech. to interconnent them. Thats why tcp/ip layer was introduced with ip address as a means to identify any end system in whole internet. Thus it can be said that Physical address is always needed but IP address may not be needed always. Though the above statement is hard to believe because TCP/IP widely used on every device that does some communication. Do leave your comments. Regards.

Author: derouge Total-Replies: 15 Hey, just thought I'd post this here and see if anyone knew how this problem could be remedied. I went to turn my PC on the other day and ended up getting a major error - a dreaded blue screen! It mentions turning off caching and shadowing, easy enough? Not. I poked around in BIOS and was unable to find either a caching OR a shadowing option. Is there any other ways to disable these features? Would any other information help? Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1 .. Intel Pentium 4 processor .. BIOS version is 2350_A02. So yeah, ANY help appreciated!

Author: docduke Total-Replies: 7 I am a retired theoretical physicist. I did numerical modeling of high-pressure physical processes, such is in the interior of the earth and the sun. The physical processes involved are very difficult to model unless some experiments can be done. Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) in New Mexico instrumented a lot of nuclear experiments so that the equation of state at very high pressures could be determined for a lot of different materials. Many of the underground nuclear detonations took place in environments that looked more like anthills than plain holes in the ground. As the pressure wave expanded from the detonation, many different materials were tested for their dynamic response to the very high pressures to which they were exposed. With a lot of data points, LANL scientists could construct the "equation of state" [EOS] (pressure-volume-temperature, and other tables) for ranges of pressure and temperature that simply were unreachable any other way. This data then proved very valuable in modeling the physics of the interior of the sun, for example. The EoS tables for lower-atomic-weight atoms were made publicly available (higher-Z ones were classified). The result was the SESAME Tables. That data from a "weapons lab" found its way into many very non-military applications. If you are interested in seeing more of these explosion pictures, I can recommend two DVDs: 1. World's Most Powerful Explosions, which is available via Amazon from third parties starting at $7.98 (plus shipping).
Experience the most frightening explosions ever caught on videotape -- from a gas station erupting into a giant mushroom cloud in downtown Seol, Korea... to firefitghters engulfed in a fireball caused by a backdraft. Watch as a Brazilian fireworks show turns into a war zone... and step inside ground zero of a nuclear blast. Learn how experts level a 20-story building using high explosives, and see what happens wihen a billion-dollar rocket detonates mid-air. This episode will show the force, destruction and human drama behind the World's Most... Powerful Explosions.
2. Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie Starring: William Shatner, Edward Teller; Director: Peter Kuran (Director's credits: Star Wars, Star Trek II & V, Robocop, Addams Family), starting at $19.96.
Peter Kuran dedicated over three years to the production of this amazing fillm which chronicles the top secret, strange and visually compelling history of the design, production and testing of Atomic and Hydrogen bombs by the United States. In addition to uncovering rare film from top secret government archives, Kuran traveled far and wide to obtain startling footage of nuclear bomb tests conducted by Great Britain, China and the largest atomic explosion ever created by Russia. The quality of the images is remarkable and required the development of a new film restoration system to preserve these haunting images for generations to come.
Narrated by William Shatner, this award-winning production features an original score performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and an interview with Dr. Edward Teller, a developer of nuclear weapons and ... This second DVD even has a bonus 3D section (and suitable glasses) plus the Warning! This disk contains Extreme Low Frequency Dynamic Range. That is, the makers of the DVD take no responsibility for the state of your sub-Woofer after you have "listened" to their DVD!

The graphics are NOT the same as Halo 2 as some cows (Ps3 fanboys) have said. Maps are a lot bigger and expansive. Some guns like the Assault Rifle and the Battle Rifle has been dumbed down so that it's no longer all guns. However, the game is not glitch-free either. Some glitches include: zoom in when you didn't even press the zoom button. Messed up colour when you're firing at people and you're being fired at the same time. Here's some shots I got and related images of Halo 3 Beta. ![]() ![]() Have u guys got yours yet? xboxrulz

Author: Ananya Total-Replies: 0 Imagine a physically challenged patient without the help of a caregiver having a sip of coffee brought to him/her by a robot that was being controlled by the patient's thought itself. That reveals the innate beauty of this latest technology called Mind Control. This magnificent act of robot has been rendered possible by a tiny sensor about the size of a baby aspirin implanted in the brain of patient which monitored electrical activity of a few dozen brain cells. The chip then transferred information by sending signal to a computer that translated those signals into a valid command that armed the robot with adequate information to act so as to help the patient as required. This same beautiful technology capable of bringing smile in the faces of millions of physically challenged people is also finding its worth in the battlefield. Its said that some Afghanistani soldiers possess sixth sense as they can wonderfully visualize way ahead signs of roadside bombs, disturbed earth or anything that is just out of the place resulting in a great difference in the battlefield by dragging someone from the claws of death. Scientists are now set to equip every soldier with this ability to remain in a win- win situation. The device exploits what Neuroscientists call P300 wave that is significant of unconscious recognition of visual object. 300 basically signifies 300 milliseconds after which it stimulated. But still the threat remains as the brain can take several seconds to interpret what it has seen and these seconds can actually translate into death if not properly assessed on time.Electroencephalogram(EEG) comes to rescue as its capable of spotting P300 signal and when that is connected to a sophisticated computer can interpret and alert instantaneously.

Author: yordan Total-Replies: 3 My C: disk is currently taking my own physical disk. This is not optimal, because I love having a small system disk and a big data disk ; in case of a huge system crash, this would allow me to recover from my last ghost image. Now vista allows me to shrink the c: volume. Unfortunately, vista allowed me to shrink only by 40 gigs. Then it allows me 0, due to cache and snapshots activated. How can I manage shrinking my C: disk down to 50 gigs ? This would mean remove 200 gigs ? Please tell me. Yordan

Author: CrazyPensil Total-Replies: 8 I'm quite keen on nuclear physic and chemistry, but due to my teenager being, I'm not able to get all the knowledges I wanna gain=( Now, I wanna ask: In a Hydrogen bomb, We get a lot of H atoms under a big pressure; when the bomb collapses, they come too close, join together and form a He atom... My chemistry teacher told that that action frees a freat energy... But where is that energy taken from?! That's the question I ask you, dear ladies and Jeantlemen.... Hope you're good enough at Those subjects=)
