Hi Guys,
I will soon have a website on astahost. It will be a military based site and will have information on all of the worlds military forces with plenty of information on fighting (ie: urban combat, techniques etc) and I would appreciate some help with some topics to cover. I have a lot of ideas already, (this is the 4 site I am building) and I would like you to come up with any ideas you can think of please. The questions you should ask yourself should be:-

+ Topics You Would Like To See Covered
+ Ideas On Any Extra Topics/Projects etc
+ A Bit Of Information About Your Favourite Fighting Team etc.

Thanks for your time, Sean Webber.

Not sure if I am posting in the right place or not, but I have been thinking about turning my home PC into an internet server, but I haven't the slightest idea as to where to even begin. Please can someone either help me out or point me in the right direction? Thanks! Much appreciated!

Same question again - anybody has an idea how to create your own RSS Feed from scratch ? I searched far and wide and all I found was loads of rss readers, free rss hosting sites and tickers - but not ONE GOOD site that describes the whole process from a DIY angle.

Any of you has done it ?? Can you direct me to some good site for beginners ?

Thanks,
m^e

I mostly program in C++ but I am open to using any language (although would not like to buy a compiler, I have Visual Studio). In the past I know that I have been able to run programs in a sub process although I am not sure that would be the right approach for this. The idea is to run a program that supplies the keystrokes to IE 6.0 in order to get info from that site periodically and analyse it. I think it has to be IE 6.0 because well take a look at the minimum requirement test they do on this site www.wfrmls.com.

Has anyone done anything like this and could they point me in the right direction? I am quite capable of absorbing whatever details are needed from the internet (I learned OpenGL and Windows API in the same way).

P.S. I am not talking about cracking the site or anything. I would use a legitimate user and password.

I know most convinient way is to put on professional advertising company's ads. But, besides that, I want to provide advertising space for memebers of my site, at a nicer price. Through this direct deal, they pay less, I gain more. But it's just my idea, I don't know how to implement it. I guess there might be some software to keep tracking the clicks and impressions.
Could anybody give me some advise on this?

How can i use my domain name to cloak my pages addresses?
like i have a page with address http://www.karlokazo.net/home/site.php, i want to cloak it so none could know the address, so for my site visitors always to see www.karlokazo.net instead of seeing the full address.
any idea?
this way is used by gaming sites such as hattrick.org, tycoononline.nu,......etc
i hope i can find a solution for that matter for importance :o

I keep getting a message that states t101.astahost.com refused the connection, ive checked my software on my site and its fine, my computer is fine as it happens to all my forum members. I have a URL re-direct when you try to access my site, which moves you to a folder which i used and didnt want to change so its not hidden content incase anyone thought it was. the problem is not all at the same time but at seoerate times we all get the dreaded message t101.astahost.com refused connection. Is there something on the astahost end that is causing this.

QUOTE (mzwebfreak)

I think this goes in here, since you need cpanel to make them, but how does one go about making custom error pages so that you see something different than the usual "This page is unavailable".  I mean, for my domain, I want the 404s and such to give them links back to certain points in my domain.  Any idea how to do that?

Look here for cpanel specific instructions:

http://www.visn.co.uk/cpanel-docs/error-pages.html

and here for more general information about apache, php and error pages:

http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2003/02...davidsklar.html

In short, you must instruct Apache to use the custom pages by putting directives in the .htaccess file. Cpanel has some support for doing this for you. If you want smart error pages (e.g.: doing a site search and coming back with related pages), you need to do some PHP work.

Guys,
OpaQue pointed this site out to me - you HAVE TO TRY IT. It's hillllllarious. Once you get to this site - you meet up with a Google like interface. In the search field you type in the URL of your own/any site and wait up for it to transliterate... in it's own lingo better known as Textilize - and the whole page comes up in this Snoop Dog like Niggah lingo :P Get to it at: http://www.gizoogle.com/

Or if you want a direct translation of what you enter (whatever you type in, instead of passing it a web-site) you should go directly to the Textilize link: http://www.gizoogle.com/index.php?translate=false

Try it RIGHT NOW.. I was on the floor half the time laughing, when opaque showed me this gizoogled article of mine... I'm pasting a copy of this message itself gizoogled out so you get an idea... lollzzzz

If you search at the Mozilla site under Firefox themes for the word "Netscape" you'll get a bunch of themes (skins) for firefox.

Here's a direct link to the Search Results: https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/moreinfo....ication=firefox

See if any of them suit you :D

how are you loading your images? relative or absolute paths? I don't reall think it matters that much. Hotlink works on my site so I have no idea what the problem would be but how you are accessing them.

Hey everyone.

I thought it'd be a good idea to put together a list of some links and online resources for digital artists, as there seems to be a number of us here. If any of you come from a fairly artistically traditional background as I do, it can be tough when trying to figure out how to take full advantage of the internet as a means to get exposure for your own work or just to learn. Believe me, there are tons of avenues out there for each; Some good and some bad. Please feel free to add your own two cents if I miss something.

I'll start of with my favorites. Again, feel free to add your own.

CGChannel is a great site with a huge wealth of articles, artists interviews and even galleries where you can show your own work. They host everything themselves. It's just a matter of selecting your work, sizing it appropriately, and managing your own online gallery. It's sort of like deviant art and GFXartist, but a little more classy.

CGNetworks is another good one. At first glance, it may look a bit like CGChannel but it's more centered around it's forum and direct interactivity between artists. It's standard for quality is a bit higher when it comes to the work that's displayed. The tallent displayed there is truly humbling. It has some great articles as well, including news and behind-the-scenes glances into how digiatal art is applied in various industries.

sijun is an oldy but a goody. Seriously, it's been around longer than I was even aware that people used computers for art. It's pretty casual too. There's a healthy mix between pros and novices.

conceptart.org is definitely worth checking out everyday. (thanks for reminding me overture) I can't believe I forgot this one considering that I've been posting there since the first day it went online. I go by the handle, "Exo" over there. The level of talent and discipline shown here is not only applicable to digital mediums, but traditional as well. These guys make your video games. They make your movies. They all-out rock. Did I mention that they were talented?

GFXArtist is pretty decent as well. They offer gallery space but you have to host everything yourself with all the proper size constraints. I used to maintain a gallery there in it was a bit of a hassle mostly because I'm too lazy to make sure all my hotlinks worked. Again though, you can interact with amazing artists and they can give you feedback for your work.

More to come later.

I've seen websites with a news page in a manner like blogging. With the time, date and all that. But the one thing interests me most in these kind of "blogs" is the "multi-user" style they use. They may have one person posting some information and then there will be another "sub-admin" posting another. How would i go about doing this without letting my friend knowing my password to my cpanel and giving him access to everything.
What i mean is to know how to create a portion of your site which you allow your friend to update while he never gets to touch the rest of your files. Does anyone have any idea how you do this?

I was wondering if anyone has some ideas on how I could promote my website on the cheep. I am the owner of a wonderful site called Yahoo! Coder’s Cookbook (www.ycoderscookbook). My goal with this site is to provide informative information about Yahoo! Messenger and the protocol it uses. Unlike many of the other Yahoo! sites out there, my site is geared toward the academic and open discussion of Messenger. I have a few good articles that I have spend quite a bit of time composing and I will have lots of new stuff coming soon.

The problem is no one knows about it. I have submitted my site to all the major search engines over 6 months ago yet when I search I can not find any direct links to my site. I have also scoured my logs and found that many of the major search bots have made an appearance. Would there be any reason the bots would refuse to index my site? Does a robots.txt have to be setup for the bots to index?

I am gaining no money off the site and am doing this out of the goodness of my heart. Are there any good, free methods of promoting what I have to offer? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
