You can start your webdesign by using these tools .

1st,
You need a web browser, Use firefox.

Search some website for inpiration. Chose The Simple & Best features from sites You can take screenshot using this firefox plugins Awesome Screenshot for further use.

2nd ,
You need a good photo editor, use gimp its open source, you can make background editing photo and everything you need for a website(graphic) is available with it.

3rd,
Give your site a professional liik and feel.

You need some animation script. If ou are a new and need to give a professional touch to your site then you have to use some of demo available for free to use and update. Use htmldrive.com , you will find lots of good script absolutly free and you can use them with your other professional project.

Just download the script you want to use.

4th,
A WYSIWYG WEB BUILDER

You need a WYSIWYG WEB BUILDER software, it helps you to create your site, With out any coding. Use KompoZer its an opensource.


5th
A ftp Client.
Here you have many choices. Ues filezilla its a good software.(KompoZer has built in ftp client, but it stopps working on low bandwith connection)

A home server.
Use xampp . It is a good and standalone webserver for pc(xp linux), yoou can get the workig server so you can test how your site is working or not. It has built in php mysql ftp server email server. So you can use it as own home server and host your first test website in you localhost.

Note:- Website5 free edition, provide website maker so you just download the site and use ready made template to build your site.


7. After this you can now publish the website.
You can chose either the free subdomain or use the .tk domain .I advice you to use .tk domain. Its easy and a free tld.

Hope this little sharing will help new designer.

Several things that you can get for your website for FREE are the following :
1. Freeforums.org can give you a nice forum for FREE and a nice hosting program and a lot of MB and BW to use. They also give you a load of templates to choose from from light to dark.
2. Another place is a place that supports phpbb. Phpbb is very useful for most forums around the world and would help for clan uses, as in templates again and you can also upload or just CREATE your own templates right there just with some codes and you might need to know or learn CSS.
3. Freewebs.com is a good beginner's place for a website just simple text and can handle HTML if you'd like to can upload some links to a forum or a different page.. Very easy to use and can have it done in under a few minutes
4. Last but not least , a free domain name.. You can get a .co.nr domain name for free at www.freedomain.co.nr all you have to do is REGISTER! and you're DONE. There has got to be a free domain name place with ( .com ) somwhere out there in the world, all you have to do is just google them. I haven't found any yet but there might or might not be.

Hence, my site will be called gardening-by-cathy.net, of which I already have purchased the domain. However, I plan to tie into gardening all my interests as they apply. For example: Cultivating Character would be a discussion on the books of Louis LaMour.
      
      Also "Digging your roots deep" might apply to an in depth discussion of some programming language and/ or operating system. I will say here and now that even though I do not have alot of experience in Linux, I don't like the way Microsoft does things. I will shout a loud hurrah to Open Source software and programs and all the time and effort that is put into their development and support by many people out there.
      
      See anything can be related to gardening and vice versa.
      
      I also am a part time Substitute teacher because when I was fulltime, it turned out to be parttime with all the time off that the students received. And of course, no students means no work.

There are many different domain services, that supply domains for free. Dot tk for example give you a .tk web domain for free. Though there is lots of advertisments on it.
An even better domain for free site is .de.vu
This is a german site, though if you understand a little bit of german, you can get yourself through to getting a free .de.vu domain with no advertisment at alll?!!! Oh yea this is good.
remember you need to become member and give them your email etc.
So in the end a real .com domain for 50 cent or even less is really cheap and more efective.
So I hope you now know more!
