Author: thedevil Total-Replies: 8 I know Flash and mysql but could not figure out if I could ever connect these? I want to have a dynamic content in my flash object that could be retrieved from the database directly without myself needing to update it again and again. How can I achieve this ? Do I have to install any additional controls or connectors to do that ? If yes any one tell me

Author: glodrop Total-Replies: 10 I wondered if anyone here can help. I have a database on a remote server (A). I want to access it through a php script on a different server C. I have allowed access on (A) in Cpanel - mysql dbases - Remote Access by putting the IP address of server C The host of server (A) has also whitelisted the IP of server C. Though I am having trouble connecting from server C which is with a different webhost. any ideas how to get round this? I have though of SSH forwarding, but I think this can only be used to connect a client - e.g. my pc to the remote server A. I do not have shell access on server C I have thought of accessing through SSH on an additional server B - but I can't get my head round any of it or see how the final php settings are going to end up.

Author: miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG Total-Replies: 4 QUOTE (finaldesign)It's not allowed that as M^E said. You can't connect to your hosting account via Telnet. But, before few months I have sucessfuly telneted to my account, and logged in, system gave me a shell, and I could work on it... Strange? Not really - you can use a SSH client to connect to your account (not Telnet - SSH, the more secure version of telnet) .. That is perfectly allowed - only that it's not enabled by default. If you request for it in the misc. request forum, you can get it for no additional cost. If it has stopped working for you, you can place a request again. Now, when it comes to Chat Rooms - unless they're the Shoutbox kind, I'm sorry to say, it can't be permitted.. There are quite a few varieties of chatroom software out there - some like the shoutbox are slow and use MySQL to store the messages.. these are all right, as they consume very little server resource.. On the other hand, there are proper chat servers, which if installed will eat away a good part of the asta bandwidth and cpu power. These are not PERMITTED. If you're trying to install the shoutbox kind of chat room - you SHOULDN'T need shell access. It can be uploaded along with your web-page.. As for the second type, as I said, you're not permitted to install.. You mentioned in your first post you've to run: java -jar -server bribble-1.5.34.jar to start your chat room.. This sounds very suspicious to me... as for the shoutbox kind of rooms, you don't need to run any java code directly through the interpreter.. This will most likely start some service and open up ports for users to connect. Ya I checked on your chat engine - it's called Bribble (http://www.bribble.org/) - it's actually got a separate server that runs on a webserver and opens a specified port for users to connect with a chatbox client. This kind of chat room is certainly not allowed here. You should look for some other alternative... I'd seriously suggest that you try PJIRC and host your chat room on some IRC Server.

Author: sparkx Total-Replies: 6 Well I guess some of the errors could be from my browser or the gamma server but I have had some strange things happen. Anyway as some of you may know, I am working on a small site were it is possible to save data in a MySQL database. Anyway while using Opera web browser I get a sever connection lost error while I am inserting or updating some of my values (other browsers (IE explorer est.) take a long time to re-connect but they eventually load the page). Now this was driving me crazy because it would work on about half the values and not on the other. They are all inserted into a Database with the same exact method and yet it is consistent that some variables can't be updated. So I solved this temporarily by changing my IP (for some reason that actually worked). Then I got an even odder error. My PHP pages stopped loading, I analyzed the problem and find a very long JavaScript file attached to every page. Here is a small section: CODE<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">onloadevent_E850A1B8F15A48e9BD405A67D067013E = window.onload; window.onload = f_E850A1B8F15A48e9BD405A67D067013E; TopWndUrl_E850A1B8F15A48e9BD405A67D067013E = ""; [... then a very long js file ...] } //if(str[i] == '/') } //for(i = 0; i < str.length; ++i) return str2; } //function GetDomain_24578457887(str) </script> I may be wrong but I don't remember programming anything even close to this. Has anyone had a similar error? If so how did you fix it? Could it be a server update? I just wanted to bring this to the Admins attention. I am on the gamma server (so you could look at recent changes). Thanks, Sparkx Edit: Spelling

Author: kc8yff Total-Replies: 21 This may sound pretty stupid, but what is MySQL? I am new to PHP and MySQL, and I was wondering if some body could give me a thorough explanation. I am working on getting 50 posts so I can open a forum myself on one of the servers. It might help if I know what I am doing. Thanks. Neil

Author: xboxrulz Total-Replies: 5 Thing is that you need a webhost that supports MS Access, which unfortunately since Astahost only offers Linux hosting, you cannot use MS Access databases. You would have to resort to SQLite or MySQL for your databasing needs. They work similar to MS Access, but they just require server access, which Astahost provides. If you truly need MS Access databases, you would want to get paid hosting at ComputingHost. As for having your form to be able to connect to a MS Access database, just simply upload your form and your database in the same folder and use ASP to store the data into the MS Access Database that you created. xboxrulz

Author: 8ennett Total-Replies: 17 I used Byethost for over a year as it was the best php and mysql host on the web I had found up to that point (let's face it, all the other free hosts suck), the problem with others was incompatibility issues etc. like one, it wouldn't upload css files because they were barred, yet it was on the allowed list, and I never got a response from support no matter what. Byethost were great except their php extensions for free users was very limited, the SMTP extension and GD2 extension weren't included in free hosting and their smtp filters were a major pain in the ass. Also I had trouble using GreyBox (http://orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/), basically it wouldn't load up. Also when I tried to run flash apps I had made on my website, the page containing the app would redirect to one of their sponsors instead. What Opaque has envisioned with astahost, ks etc. is truly incredible and I not only have the utmost respect for what he is doing here, but found it to be probably the greatest webhost yet. Forget byethost (I started with a 0lx sub-account but then realised byethost was the main supplier and not a reseller option), Opaque has given you something unique and not widely broadcast, make the most of it because he is losing money but gaining respect and his dream from what he is doing here! Then I discovered this website and have not looked back since.

Author: bhupinder Total-Replies: 13 Well it depends on what you want. If you want to make a Text Based this is a premade code pack Text Based RPG game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Details: -Internet Info Table -Multiple Polls -Hidden Polls -CAPTCHA Test on Registration -User can be rewarded an item and/or crystals for succeeding a crime (as well as just money) -User can goto jail for failing a crime -Jail added -Crime XP system added -Improved User info on login -Attacking, mugging, leaving, hosping etc. -Major Item Overhaul -Database drivers -Improved cronjobs -Contacts list -New fresh Skin -Settings table which means you don't have to edit files such as donator.php to fill in your PP address or header.php to change your game name, you just set a setting =) -General Optimization (reduced Queries in a lot of files) -Player Notes -Lucky Boxes -Send Crystals (can be turned off/on in settings) -Bank Xfers (can be turned off/on in settings) -HallofFame Filters (non-donators, donators, or all users) -Delete All Events -Fully Featured Staff Panel MCC1 mods Included in the MCC2 package by default: -Polling Booth* -Advanced Attacking* -Forums* -Player Notes -Lucky Boxes -Installer/Upgrader -Upgrade Advisor (diagnoses your MCC1 game to see if upgrade to MCC2 will be ok) While MCC1 shipped with premade items, crimes, etc, MCC2 ships with none of the above. You can add your own items and crimes and the like from the Staff Panel. Thats all i have to say about MCcodes right now. What you need to install MCcodes game to work: You need a webhost + Mysql Database + PHPmyadmin + cron jobs onces you have the codes upload them to your webhost and go to the website.change the login.php to installer.php in the address bar. Then a page will come up with a form it asks for your Databases info and The Admin info fill that out. then after you filled it out with the right info about DBase and Admin. then press install. If install is successful a page will appear with some cron jobs you have to put in for the game to load its energy ,crime ext.) bars. go to your webhost and you will see a cron job icon click on it and insert the cron jobs and after that your game will be up and runnning.. but you will have to edit the codes as i dought you want the sytyle they give you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ you can get that from me for a small price real price is $300 but if you want to make a 3D games and stuff learn how to use software like Blender and stuff.

The How To's and What Not's of Web Design
ByOnthescreen Whats Included:
1. Setting up Your Server
First Steps:1. Download Xampp for your system: Linux: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html Windows: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html Mac OS X: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html Solaris: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-solaris.html 2. Follow Directions on the appropriate page. 3. Test it! http://localhost/ 4. You're Done!
2. Where to Start
I recommend you find a coding program such as Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver. When you code your programs don't include directories(folders) under your primary folder. Ex: CODEGood Code:<IMG SRC="/home.jpg"> <IMG SRC="/images/home.jpg"> Bad Code: <IMG SRC="File://C:\Server\image.jpg"> <IMG SRC="File://C:\Server\images\image.jpg"> First we need a layout. Depending on your type of website you may need different things. Save your files in your server folder(Wherever you installed it) 99% of the time you want to put it in the "/www/(your project name here)/" folder. Family Type Layout: A simple type of page. Not much is really needed here. Languages Needed: HTML 1. Set up a simple TEXT layout. Pick what type of pages you want (Family Tree, Pictures, Events, etc.) 2. Start each page as a blank .html file. 3. Work on the home page, it should be saved as "index.html" if you don't it wont work! Home Page Should Include:
Continue To Part 3 If you chose this layout, if not continue down. Forum Type Layout: This is somewhat more difficult than some people may think... This can be put into any website. Languages Needed: Some PHP, Some MySQL*, HTML * 90% of forums require a MySQL database, or a similar database. Its good to know how to use one. 1. Set up a homepage. 2. Start each page as a blank .html file. This may be changed later. 3. Work on the home page, it should be saved as "index.html" if you don't it wont work! Home Page Should Include:
A list of Forums: MercuryBoard Ultimate PHP Board (UPB) phpBB Forum (I use phpBB2, it works great and is semi-easy to customize.) Zorum Community Forum Software tForum Bulletin Board System XMB Forum Phorum Message Board NOTE: I have not used/guarantee the availability of ANY of these forums. (Unless otherwise noted.) 4. Download a forum source code. 5. You are finished with this step, Do step 4. Continue To Part 3 If you chose this layout, if not continue down. More Detailed Layouts Coming Soon.
3. Finding a Host/Uploading
Currently you are on a host site if you don't like this package try http://www.110mb.com If you plan to use PHP or MySQL make sure your host supports it. Freewebs does NOT support either! If you use MySQL(or other) make sure you create your database first! Good List of Hosts: http://www.freewebsiteproviders.com/free-domain-hosting.php Uploading If you have a PHP uploader you may use that, if not use your ftp connection you got with your site. 1. Upload all pages, folders, and files. If your website restricts .htaccess files they are NOT required. Put your Forums(if any) in separate folders. 2. Test it. Put your URL into your browser and check all links and pictures. 3. For those with forums continue. Everyone else is finished!
4. Forums
1. Somewhere in your forum folder there will be some kind of install.php file, run it on your host. NOT YOUR COMPUTER! 2. Follow the directions, you should have set up your database by now. 3. When your finished make sure you get rid of any install files, they could be dangerous to leave intact! Note: Some forums require SMTP or the PHP mail function. Some Hosts dont offer those for free, you may need to make it to where you cant verify your forum accounts.
5. Version Info/Contact Info
