I just got a new account and CPanel reports that I have -380.2 MB of quota space and using 400.2MB. This disables some of Cpanel's functions. It would have been nice to use the automated Mambo installer, but no biggy. I uploaded the latest Mambo .tar.gz from my FTP program and unpacked it via Cpanel's file manager with no problem.

When I first logged into the system I created a new Database for mambo and a new user for that database and linked the two from Cpanel. I logged off to watch something on TV and came back and that database isn't being reported by Cpanel nor is the user I created for it. Futhermore, when I go to install Mambo, it says the database & user is non existant. Now when I try to create a new databases or database users Cpanel reports that they have been added, but when I go back, Cpanel acts like there is nothing there.

Thought I would give a heads up on the problems I am having.
The 10 credits account shouldn't have unlimited email accounts last checked, so there must be something wrong with your cPanel account. I hope an admin floats to this post...

Hmmm, you sure? From http://www.astahost.com/ :

Free Web Hosting Features

 1. NO ADS, BANNERS, POPUPS!
 2. Web Hosting Control Panel
 3. MS Frontpage WebSite Hosting
 4. PHP, CGI, Perl, MySQL
 5. ImageMagick Support
 6. Unlimited Email and FTP Accounts
 7. Fast, Free 24/7 Tech Support
 8. Web Site Hosting Help Forums
 9. 3 Web Based E-Mail Programs
 10. TCL, SSH
 11. 99.9% Uptime Guarantee

I was under the impression that both starter (10 credits) and standard (30 credits) packages received all of that, the only differences between the two being the initial cost (obviously), the amount of online storage (500MB instead of 20MB) and the monthly bandwidth (10,000MB instead of 500MB). Still, I could be wrong.

I used Byethost for over a year as it was the best php and mysql host on the web I had found up to that point (let's face it, all the other free hosts suck), the problem with others was incompatibility issues etc. like one, it wouldn't upload css files because they were barred, yet it was on the allowed list, and I never got a response from support no matter what.

Byethost were great except their php extensions for free users was very limited, the SMTP extension and GD2 extension weren't included in free hosting and their smtp filters were a major pain in the ass. Also I had trouble using GreyBox (http://orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/), basically it wouldn't load up. Also when I tried to run flash apps I had made on my website, the page containing the app would redirect to one of their sponsors instead.

What Opaque has envisioned with astahost, ks etc. is truly incredible and I not only have the utmost respect for what he is doing here, but found it to be probably the greatest webhost yet.

Forget byethost (I started with a 0lx sub-account but then realised byethost was the main supplier and not a reseller option), Opaque has given you something unique and not widely broadcast, make the most of it because he is losing money but gaining respect and his dream from what he is doing here!

Then I discovered this website and have not looked back since.

www.789mb.com is a new free hosting provider. As I stated in the title they offer 15GB of space and 250GB of bandwith monthly.
The main features are the following:

* Free web hosting. Free extras. Zero Ads!
* Free Web Hosting: 15GB disk space, 250GB Ultra-Quality bandwidth.
* Features: PHP 5, MYSQL, FTP
* 5 MYSQL Databases and 5 MYSQL Users!
* 99.9% SLA Uptime Guarantee!
* Domain/Subdomain: Host your own domain or choose a FREE sub-domain from one of our domains, like your-name.789Mb.com!

Some reasons to use this free service:

- My current free host is slow, down all the time or has no customer service
- The last free host i used just dissapeared overnight, i have no idea where it went, but i dont think its comming back!
- I lost my data when my last free host just decided to delete all its members
- My host was overloaded and crashed, it could not handle the demand
- I no longer want to keep switching free hosts, im desperate to find a reliable one
- My last free host had ads or other revenue generating methods, and is just in it for the money. I want an ad free host!
- The last free host i used was full of abusers/spammers destroying the service for my genunine use
The Cons (in my opinion):

Layered panel, no cpanel
php Safe mode on

Enjoy!

i got here by one of those freewebhosts.com kinda site. don't exactly remember which one anymore.
the fact that one needs to do 50 good posts before you get hosting makes sure that you don't get a lot of those guys that need hosting fast, though i kinda was one of them when i came here, hehe.
i think the 50 posts & stay active thing is good. you help others and learn something yourself.
about the post spamming: i'm willing to moderate a part of the forum if necessary. you know, delete spam and stuff. i think doing that takes a lot of your time which you could spend on ameliorating your hosting services. unfortunalty, i don't have that much of time either and i'm not online every day, but i'm willing to make some time as you've helped me a lot too...

what i like about astahost:
-no disabling functions like mail, fopenconnect & stuff like that.
-150mb, that's a lot of space for a website!
-php, mysql,... grrrrreat!
-uptime. i have an account at siteuptime.com and it confirms what you say: 99,5%. that's incredible for a free host.
-no forced adds. that's just great.

ps: check the bottom of http://marijnnn.astahost.com. right bottom corner :)
Hi! Who is your fav free host?
This has to be like the dumbest and most obvious question in the histoy of topics on any bulletin board in the whole wide world! :P The best free host if definetly Astahost ... duh! Half of the other hosts up there I haven't even tried let alone even heard of! I have heard of Freewbes and Geocities but they are nothing compared to Astahost and the features that the latter has to offer.

But in all seriousness now, when I say Astahost is the best I actually mean it ... and I should know about finding the right free web host. Before I found Astahost, I was searching the whole internet looking for any host that offered the average features that Iwas looking for; at least 1 mySQL database, an FTP account access, at least 200 megabytes of server space and enough bandwidth a month to last as long as I needed. First I was stuck with 100WebSpace. Back then I thought they were all right despite the banners they put on your site; they offered only 100 megabytes though and their bandwidth got sucked up really quickly. Then in time, I came to notice that there banners were indeed a hinderence and no site can survive with the features they have to offer. Just check out their hosting site and you'll see what I mean - www.100webspace.com - it's no wonder they're not even on this poll!

Then after ages of searching, I found Astahost on a website's URL and decided to give it a shot. I had finally found what I was looking for and I have to say that this is more that what I expected and needed! Unlimited mySQL databases and postgre databases, FTP account access, lots of server space and bandwidth to last for my needs, plus a great community. I thank you Astahost and it's no surprise at all that you've received the highest number of votes on the poll! :D
So for the time being .... The best host is AtSpace
Well Samya ... I hope you now realize that Astahost is indeed the best one! :P As for me, I haven't tried either Geocities or Atspace but I'm sure they don't even compare to Astahost. But for the rest of you people who voted for other web hosts such as freewebs, then you should be ashamed of yourselves! Freewebs and Geocities are not really web hosts in my eyes but web builders. Everything is already implemeted and all you need to do is put in the links. Web hosts are much better because of the challenge that you have to do everything yourself.
