If anybody needs any help with restrictions on their network, or if your internet browsing is restricted, please post what restriction you need to bypass here, (with as much detail as possible please) and I will try and help you as best I can. Alternatively, you can send me an email: sande63@eq.edu.au (this is my school email, because at the moment the method I am using to bypass web restrictions can't show some java, but i'm working on it), or send me a message via this site. I will reply to you as soon as I can, and I hope I can help.

1) bandwith is limited to 20kbps. We can surf with or without a proxy (squid), but bandwith is almost allways limited. Some websites (like ebuddy.com) are blocked by the proxy (and it doesn't even matter if we enable or disable the proxy setting in our browsers).
2) most of the ports are blocked, no ftp access, no cpanel access and almost no msn access is possible (msn through the proxy is sometimes possible, but Mercury Messenger doesn't support this feature yet).

I do not believe it is at all possible to get on non-preapproved sites at my School, you see, any sites that they haven't added to the allowed list is autoblocked, preventing proxy use, astahost isn't blocked, but the gamma server and my domain is. If you have a solution, kindly tell me.

To do with the messenger trouble, it seems you are using the Squid proxy, and I checked out the site, and it seems you must download it. If this is not the case, please inform me of this. I have found a good web-based proxy, which might run Mercury Messenger, and will definately allow EBUDDY, but I will suggest a different Messenger Program that I believe is better below (due to similarities to MSN) (Althought EBUDDY is also very good). The URL of the proxy I use is: http://schoolap.8rf.com/, which redirects to http://web.netcall.com/ (so if one is blocked, use the other URL). The only problem is that it doesn't support java at the moment, but I am looking for one that does. Now, there is an internet MSN Messenger, called webmessenger on the MSN site, but this is the direct URL: http://webmessenger.msn.com/. It is almost exactly the same as MSN, but it is web-based. (It is made by MSN, so it functions the same, but there are some funtions left out, due to the fact that it's on the web, but these are funtions you won't need at school, as I am assuming you are using it for chatting, rather that changing settings of your account, because you are not able to do this).

To do with bandwidth, I will look for a solution, and get back to you when I have found one.

Lastly, Control Panel Access, I can fix, but I will need to make or find a file for you. Here, I will assume that when you try and open Controol Panel, It gives you an Access Denied Message, (if you can't browse to the directory, or if it is another message etc. tell me). I will make or find a .manifest file for you asap, which you can merge with the control panel exe and it will override user account permisssions.

Hope this helped..... biggrin.gif
(With the other user who had the problem with only certain sites being allowed, I will try to help you ASAP)

The problem with our school's proxy (squid) is that I can't access it and that it blocks certain sites (like ebuddy, webmessenger.msn.com, ...) because our network administrator wants it to block these sites.
Our administrator also blocks a lot of ports (probably everything except port 80) to prevent us from abusing the network. The website you gave don't seem to work here at home, but I assume these are some CGI-based proxy-site thingies ?

Anyway, the proxy story at school is kinda funny. If I want to login to my live account throug a secury connection (use advanced security) then I have to use the proxy server, but as soon as I want to use webmessenger.msn.com I have to disable the proxy because otherwise I get a "website blocked by squid" page biggrin.gif .

When you tried the site yesterday, did you get an error message, or was it blocked by your school's proxy? Because when I tried to use it yesterday, the site was down, and IE said it couldn't access the webpage. I advise you to try now, because it works for me now, but yes, there are some CGI based proxies.

If it still dosen't work, then I will put the saved version of the proxy up for download.

By the way, what message do you get when you access cpanel (or can't you browse to it)?

As well, to Miles (the user who can only browse to allowed sites), if you can browse to: http://schoolap.8rf.com/ at home then go up to the File menu, click save as, when the dialog box come up, down near the bottom where it says save as type, click the arrow, then select the option: Web page, complete, and save the file to a USB get it to school in some way, the open the .htm file, and type the web page you want into the search bar in the saved page, and it should work, but make sure the: show mini url form option is ticked. Then it should work. (If it doesn't, then please tell me and I will try to find another solution to your problem.

Our school (in Australia) is using a Department of Education internet network which utilises whitelist system to prevent you from visiting banned sites and uncategorised sites.

@ Talal Zahid,
You are better off not trying to bypass the block on internet access or try to gain administrator priveleges, because it will only cause you to get fired / sacked from your job. It's really not worth it.
