I'm wondering if Mandrake 9.2 with X can be used on slow machine like: Pentium 350, 64mb ram, 2mb graphic card. I don't want to install any servers (ssh maybe).

I know I've been able to run both Mandrake and RedHat on a 333mhz Laptop with no problems... Games and stuff were slow, but regular usage was fine. If you're just running text editors and programming stuff, you shouldn't have any trouble. Best way to find out it to try it smile.gif

I want to use it for vbrowsing the web and using p2p and connection sharing. Maybe win98 is better but when I was using it I had to fight with viruses, it was crashing all the time and it was slow. I don't have this problems under Linux and it's really good. I don't understand why everyone says that linux is better only for servers. Now it's really easy to use.

Im pretty sure you can do that...

I tried to install RedHat Linux 7.2 or 7.3 on a:

Intel i386 133Mhz
32 MB of SDRAM
1-2 GB HD
4x CDROM

And it did work... laugh.gif

You can try DSL (Damn Small Linux) which includes a GUI!!! cool.gif

It only needs:

50mb drive space
486dx PC
16mb of ram (and amazingly fast at 128mb!)

can run on a business card CD (liveCD) or a pen drive (50mb)

ain't that great?!

Damn Small Linux (DSL) is very good.

But also quite a pain in the ass installing to the hard drive.

If you have a bit to spare, you can have slax or knoppix. With a lot more apps available.

Knoppix is a very powerful flavor or linux. When you think of liveCD, you initially have one distro in mind - KNOPPIX! It was one very important troubleshooting tool for linux enthusiasts when just a few distros have liveCD versions.

It has the ff. minimum requirements:
-32mb of ram for text mode/96mb for graphics/128mb recommended with office apps
-cdrom drive to run the whole OS from
-486 or better
