Scenario:

To make you understand what I am trying to do, I need to describe the scenario first. There is a line (basically a telephone line which also has broadband capabilities) that is connected to a modem. The modem has many ports. One for “LINE IN” for the connection described earlier. Then there are 4 ports to which DSL cables can be attached (the other end of the cable is attached to a computer for internet use). The device also has built in wifi functionality so that a computer can directly connect via wifi without the need of the aforementioned DSL cable.

And finally there are 3 to 4 computers connected to the device; some via cables and some via wifi.

What I wish to do:

The experiment I want to conduct is to put some controlling and monitoring force over the activities of the device.  The idea in my mind is to find some way of passing all the incoming and outgoing traffic of the modem through a computer where all the controlling and monitoring can be done. This idea might sound simple but there are many problems associated with it. Plus I don’t know whether the passing of traffic through a computer is itself practical or not.

Currently I can’t think of the method by which the computer would connect to the modem. My best guess is that I would need additional hardware for this purpose. With the current hardware (the mode, computer and cables) it just seems impossible. I say it seems impossible because the only way to connect the modem to the computer is by wifi or lan, both of which are output of the modem. So I can monitor the internet activity of the very computer which is currently connected but not of other computers which are connected by other wires. The goal is to control and monitor the activity of all computers.

I would need guidance on the type of hardware required. My current assumption is that I would need a more advanced type of modem which has these capabilities. Furthermore, if I am to monitor the activities via a computer, I may need to dedicate a computer for this purpose. So I would definitely need some guidance on this.

The modem itself has some features for controlling its activity. I would access it by giving the address 192.168.1.1 in a browser and then I can turn on off wifi and do some other things. But I need more control over the activity for example turning off individual output ports.etc.

And there are no monitoring features available and I need to have some level of monitoring including which websites are viewed etc…

Monitoring can be illegal sometimes and most people would frown upon it. But in my case, the connection is my personal internet connection and only I use it. This whole thing is just an experiment to help me understand how modems work and how to extend their functionality…. So don’t worry about this…..

How this idea came into my mind:

I have seen some internet connections where there is an added layer of security. They would require you to sometimes install an extra software and then provide the additional username and password to use the internet. I am not sure about this but a friend of mine told me that this is done via an additional computer which is dedicated to controlling and monitoring the internet activity of all the computers connected. It is usually found in universities and colleges. But I don’t have any practical experience of seeing such a system or even authentic information about how such systems work.

So basically this whole post is based on a naïve idea derived from common talk. Any information or help is appreciated….

Your computer is made up of several important parts, one of them being your hard disk. The hard disk is the device where all your files are methodically stored so that it can be fetched quickly & easily whenever you need it.

It also stores your "Operating System" ; Windows 7 , Windows XP , Windows 95 - 98 , Ubuntu, Linux Mint, OS X , Solaris and so on are all Operating Systems. Your hard disk however does not merely store your data, it also stores information about your data, software you add(install) , little tid bits that help the software work… many many things are stored onto your hard disk to make sure your experience is as great as it can be.

As your hard disk ages without regular maintenance, you might face any 1 of many problems including :-

• Infections in your computer that affect performance, memory & security.
• Your machine feels sluggish and difficult to use.
• Unnecessary tid bits , records are lying around cluttering up space and other resources

So, users often format their computers regularly to "wipe the slate clean" so to speak.

What is formatting?

Remember how I said your files are stored methodically? Hard disks don't automatically know how to do this. Formatting is the process where your hard disk is first wiped clean of all previous records. Wiped clean = all data on it is deleted and once completed , a "file system" (the structure that will help your computer store files properly / organized) is added.

Now, your hard disk is ready for use where you can add the operating system of your choice.

STEP 1 :- GETTING STARTED - KNOW YOUR COMPUTER

Software that will help you with this

• Ccleaner
• Speccy

-- Catalogue / List all the programs you have installed on your computer --

• List of Software.
• List of passwords.
• Browser History (optional)
• List of hardware components on your computer.

- Getting a list of Software

-- The painful part of formatting your computer is setting up your computer to its old working state. Without a list, you are looking at a very painstaking process because you are left wondering which software you have with you or software that you would still like to use. I usually end up discarding 5-15 applications during this process, things I add which I would have forgotten to remove or postponed the uninstallation.

- How to get a List of software added by you
-- We will be using a software called Ccleaner, the download link has been given above (To those unsure on how to install, Click No to any downloads / free toolbars.. Click Next for everything else)

-- After installation, run the program by double clicking the program icon. Navigate to the Tools -> Uninstall Section . Here , you will find all the software you have installed on your computer.

Through windows you would Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs (Uninstall a Program for Windows 7)

- List of saved Passwords

-- If you have a habit of using the "save Password" "Remember Password" feature of your browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Maxthon, Opera, Safari & so on) . Here are a few softwares that can help you export your stored passwords

Multi Browser Support(Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera.)
- WebBrowserPassView

Optionally you can also save your history in case there are links you need. BrowsingHistoryView (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer & Safari)


- List of hardware components & their drivers

-- Like your hard disk, your other components also require some help in order to function properly. These programs are called "drivers" they help operate your all hardware including your mouse, keyboard, motherboard and so on.

-- It is always recommended that you directly download these drivers from the maker's website since the driver version on your CD would probably be outdated. Also, download before the format in case your internet does not work after the formatting (It usually does not since the "Network drivers" are missing)

-- To get your computer's complete system information, we are going to use "Speccy" . There is another one called Belarc Advisor but I prefer Speccy since it is pretty easy to understand

-- Install and run the software, note down the Motherboard, Graphics & Audio model names / numbers. Graphics & Audio model name / numbers show only if you have an external card installed. Most commonly, if you search this number in google with the word driver, you will get links from where you can download these drivers. Something like "XYZ Model Number 2343453 driver"

STEP 2 :- BACKING UP YOUR FILES

Firstly, let us remember that the C drive on Windows is only for Windows and not for data storage, if you have so far been using it for storing data, make sure to not use it for storing software, files and so on. If you are using programs like Photoshop, your brushes and so on will have to be copied by you.

Personally, I back up my files by hand picking the files I need to make sure I copy only the files I recognize. Ccleaner has a duplicate file finder in case you want to make sure your computer is not filled with copies of the same stuff

For those looking for a quick and automated back up process, you can do it using AOMEI DATA BACKUPPER . It allows you to backup either the complete hard disk or simply the partitions that need backing up. I like this tool because it offers Incremental backups and restoration options.

STEP 3 :- FORMATING THE HARD DISK

When upgrading to Windows 7 , you need to remember that your previous version of Windows is stored in a folder of its own. It might be useful to others but I find this to be pointless, I prefer having everything erased off the hard disk before installing a new operating system on it. With older versions of Windows, you can format the hard disk

You can use DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) . DBAN wil delete EVERYTHING from your Hard Disk for good. You need to first download the software and then add (burn) it onto a CD using CDBurnerXP . Please use only CDBurnerXP since the developer of DBAN has recommended this.

STEP 4 :- POP IN YOUR WINDOWS CD AND TWIDDLE THUMBS UNTIL DONE

STEP 5 :- REINSTALL DRIVERS , SOFTWARES AND BACKUPS

The first things we do are very simple.
We start the session.
We require the database.php file (the database.php is the file where the mysql connections and stuff is stored. you should know how to created such a file. if you don't know, i'll create one in the end of this tutorial, only for you )
then we create a variable for the set session, to make it easier to write.
Then we create some variables.
the $get_messages is the variable where the message id is stored.
the $get_messages2 is the variable where all the messageinfo is stored.
Then we create a simple for-loop that will show all the messages that is sent to the user that is logged in(check w3schools or google or whatever, if you don't know what that is.).
the first thing we do here is:
Check if the message is read.
If it isn't, the loop will add "(new)" after the message title. else, it will just show the message title.
The last thing we do is:
Add 2 buttons. One to send a new message, and one to go back to the home-page.

I didn't get into this series until System Shock 2 circa 2001, but I've been a fan ever since. Bioshock, System Shock 2's spiritual successor, was awesome, but sadly felt very "console-ized." While the graphics were stunning, the game suffered from terrible bugs due to the fact that the PC version was a port of the Console version, and that they added a very strict activation system that allowed you, the buyer, to only install it on, I believe it was 3 different systems. I think a later patch fixed that, but it still pisses me off they did it in the first place.

Bioshock then had a sequel, which I played for about an hour before I got bored and quit. When Bioshock Infinite was announced, I had renewed hope that the game would again be awesome, and thankfully, I was right.

Bioshock Infinite opens very similar to the first Bioshock... Everything is done completely in first person mode, which is awesome as it gives you the feeling like you ARE the character, Booker DeWitt. You start out on a rowboat with 2 other people. They have a very odd discussion that makes sense after you play the game, but basically they drop you off at a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean. A disturbing note is on the door "Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt, this is your last chance!"

As Booker, it is your job to find a girl named Elizabeth and bring her back to New York, telling her anything she wants to hear as long as you bring her back. The opening of the game does not really clarify what this "debt" is, but in several dream-like sequences, it is inferred that you have a gambling debt, as there are many horse racing tickets on your desk.

After a very dark and gray opening sequence, you are transported to the wonderful land of Columbia, a city that floats in the sky. You work your way through this Heaven-like paradise for awhile, which acts as a very natural tutorial, as everyone is very nice to you and you have nothing to worry about, but there is a constant sense of wrongness about the place.

I won't spoil anything, but after awhile you quickly discover Columbia's secrets, and you are then in trouble as you keep forcing your way through to find Elizabeth. Again, I really don't want to spoil it, but I must say, Elizabeth is probably one of the most memorable and life-filled video game characters I've "met" since Alyx Vance in the Half Life series.

Elizabeth becomes your companion, and she is NOT annoying like most escort missions in other games. She stays the hell out of the way during firefights, and is actually helpful. As you continue your journey with her, you can't help but feel for her innocence and its loss as she sees you gun down hundreds of assailants... I truly feel remose the fact that eventually she starts helping you as you defend yourself.

Elizabeth is special. She has the ability to create portals into other, parallel universes similar to what you would see on an episode of Fringe. She will help you by pulling in objects from other universes such as med-kits, guns, and turrets. Combined with your ability to use what are called "Vapors" which are basically just Plasmids (as seen in Bioshock), and your guns, you and Elizabeth are a force to be reckoned with.

The story takes you on a journey of self-discovery and wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff. The plot can be confusing at times, because of the parallel universes, half the time I had no idea where or when the hell we were...

The game takes VERY creepy turns and is a roller coaster of the mind. By the time you are done, you may be shaking your head in confusion, but after reading more in forums, you may learn more about what the whole thing was about.

Music, sound effects, gameplay, graphics. Everything and all were top notch. Never had any crashes and the game didn't really feel like a "consolized" game. The characters are memorable, and there's never a moment that doesn't fully emmerse you into this universe... and many others

Get this, and play it.

But, being family, they decided to get some hack to try reloading the OS first rather than wait for me :/  Well, he managed to install Windows 7 , but the boot menu had a little more to say.. There was a broken Windows XP Setup and good old "EARLIER VERSION OF WINDOWS"

This means that  he took the shortcut method of letting Windows 7 manage things rather than format the HDD. So what happens is, that every time I boot the machine, Instead of automatically loading Windows 7 , it shows me

1. Earlier Version of Windows

2. Windows Professional XP Setup

3. Windows 7

Now, of course, we want Windows 7 to load automatically instead of seeing the Boot Menu each time. In my scenario, I used Command Prompt (bcdedit) to remove the entries but I don't recommend this to regular / novice users.

The easiest method to configure startup and edit the boot.ini in a Windows 7 machine (Remember, windows 7 does not have a boot.ini, only XP and older have it, Windows 7 instead has bootmhgr.dll) is through a software called EasyBCD

When you run the software, it shows you information about your current boot menu. To remove entries for Windows XP (edit boot.ini) , you need to click Tools -> Edit Legacy Entries . Remove all the lines mentioning XP and save!

Once you reboot, you will not be plagued by the boot Menu options.

This software is really multi purpose, it will let you add / delete addtional Operating Systems to your Boot options, prioritize them so that you can directly load one OS instead of having to select it each time on boot. Definitely deserves 5 stars

1. Click on "Start" in the bottom left hand corner of screen
2. Click on "Run"
3. Type in "command" and hit ok

You should now be at an MSDOS prompt screen.

4. Type "ipconfig /release" just like that, and hit "enter"
5. Type "exit" and leave the prompt
6. Right-click on "Network Places" or "My Network Places" on your desktop.
7. Click on "properties"

You should now be on a screen with something titled "Local Area Connection", or something close to that, and, if you have a network hooked up, all of your other networks.

8. Right click on "Local Area Connection" and click "properties"
9. Double-click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list under the "General" tab
10. Click on "Use the following IP address" under the "General" tab
11. Create an IP address (It doesn't matter what it is. I just type 1 and 2 until i fill the area up).
12. Press "Tab" and it should automatically fill in the "Subnet Mask" section with default numbers.
13. Hit the "Ok" button here
14. Hit the "Ok" button again

You should now be back to the "Local Area Connection" screen.

15. Right-click back on "Local Area Connection" and go to properties again.
16. Go back to the "TCP/IP" settings
17. This time, select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

20. You now have a new IP address

With a little practice, you can easily get this process down to 15 seconds.

P.S:
This only changes your dynamic IP address, not your ISP/IP address. If you plan on hacking a website with this trick be extremely careful, because if they try a little, they can trace it back.

After some months I shifted to my new house then I bought splinter cell conviction 2dvds of 4gb and tried both disks but it didnt work .   Drive name - Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560A ATA Device. If you need further info please ask . I live in india is that a dvd region problem. Well I brought this laptop from US.Oh I forgot to mention that it reads cds. I installed prison tycoon 4 supermax(awful) and ac 130 operation devastation(not working)

Hi all!I am working on a turn based web game in PHP5.This is pretty simple game, a kind of board game, two people join a "session" and they play until one of them wins.My problem in nutshell:User A and User B play a game.User A finished his turnA request will be sent to the server to perform necessary operations. So far so good..Now it is time for User B to move..But how could I notify User B about this?I mean, now the server has to communicate with the other user, the one that is inactive, and not the one who initiated the request

I know that this could be implemented using some kind of periodic AJAX call to check whether the opponent finished his turn etc, but such a thing generates a huge number of requests.Isn't there a better way to solve this? I'm thinking of something like this:User A's turn ends ----> Server saves his score ----> Server contacts User B ----> User B's turn gets started.Is this possible using PHP and comet-style requests? Or is there a better way?
