Repair Windows Configuration
If your Windows Configuration are Corrupted , Windows Displays below message Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE To repair Windows Configuration 1- boot your computer from your Windows XP CD 2- Press R to run Windows Repair 3- Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair, for example #1 4- Enter in the administrator password when requested 5- Type: cd \windows\system32\config 6- Depending on which section was corrupted: ren software software.bad or ren system system.bad 7- Depending on which section was corrupted copy \windows\repair\system copy \windows\repair\software And finally reboot your computer This post has been edited by miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG: Dec 28 2005, 12:52 PM |

Or just install Windows over the previous(corrupted) installation

well what I think soleimanian was referring to if you have important stuff on your computer and you don't feel like losing it all you just do it this way thus you save yourself from reinstalling everything again.

You can do it without formatting your hard drive :-) But then you will have to remove prevoius WINDOWS installation directories (Windows ect.)
