I have tried installing this through CUPS several times but it doesn't seem to detect the printer. Could someone give me exact instructions to installing this printer so that I don't have to use Windows when I have to print something?

I am using a Debian-based Linux distribution, Ubuntu 7.04 to be exact. I have a HP Deskjet 656C, and I have obtained a driver from the OpenPrinting database. Some additional information could be found here: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer....HP-DeskJet_656C .

So I have followed the instructions of http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPri...PSDocumentation to try to install my downloaded PPD file. It took me a while to figure out that /home/FirefoxRocks/ was my own directory similar to C:\Documents and Settings\FirefoxRocks\

I went into the Terminal as administrator, and typed in commands to download appropriate packages and whatnot. It didn't work.
The problem with the Add Printer Wizard is that it doesn't detect the USB port as a printer port. How can I get it to do that?

If you give me some instructions to install this driver then give me exact commands to type into the terminal.

Thanks.

Interesting, this database http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/inkjet.html
says USB=Yes for that particular printer model.
Check out "Should you install the latest HPLIP?" at:
