Hello, i'm a newbie in using phpBB and I still lack knowledge in mySQL database. How do I transfer the datas(users, configs, all of them) contained in my current forum to another one in phpBB? I hope someone can help, a short but detailed tutorial would be good. Example is, if I want to move to a new host and I want to transfer all the accounts on my old forum to the new one. Thanks in advance, hope anyone here knows how to.

I NEED SOME INFORMATIONS Please be somehow mor specific. Which informations do you need ? So, I already have two questions : 1) Do you already have an existing working PHPBB forum you want to move somewhere else ? 2) Did you already try my step-by-step tutorial quoted above, and which you wil find here : http://www.astahost.com/index.php?showtopic=12629&hl 3) If you were not successful using my step-by-step, bad luck, you will have to read the documents inside the links provided by wedjarl in the present post. 4) then, if it's still not working, please come back here and tell us, we will try to help you overcoming this isssue. Regards Yordan |

That's easy.. i use phpBB in Portuguese so what i'll type here may be not samely as the english version:
go to the admin area on yours phpBB(http://your-phpbb-url/admin). On the menu(left side) click on "Copy Database", choice your configurations and clicl on "Backup"... now u have a file with phpBB backups, go to the new admin phpBB area, in the left side click on "Restore Database", select the file and click on "Restore". WOW the magic is done Try to interpret the words on "" used here, as i said it's a translation by me, so on english version may be not the same.. good lucky |

I think phpBB databases are the hardest to transfer, vBulletin and IPB are swift for me. Are you talking about porting an old database to a new one, with the same version of a bulletin board used on both databases? They're even easy between different versions of one product; it only gets more challenging for different software (luckily enough converters exist). It shouldn't take too long to spot the differences in how the data is kept, run your script to change all the sql values and you're golden. Even if you can't get it right the first time, back-ups are your friend. |
