Hey guys,
Well I just started up a new site and was trying to figure out what forum software to use. I did not really want to spend money on an IPB or VB license in the beginning of my community, so I decided to look at my free options. Anyways, my first visit was or Mercury Board and then SMF and finally PHPBB. Anyways, while i was looking at the 2.0 series to see how well i could mod it and customize it i looked into the beta. So i downloaded the beta and uploaded and installed it at http://geekfromtheforest.com/community/ . Anyways when you look into the new beta version you see a whole need admin interface, and in general a whole new cool looking version. If you seriously compare it to IPB or VB you will easily see the major improvement that the PHPBB development team has done. So if your interested in any of the new techy stuff check out PHP3 Beta4. Warning you should not run PHPB 3 as a live version until the final release. Well unless you know what your doing !!! |

Ya, I played around with PHPBB, but I still prefer Quicksilver Forums over PHPBB.

Yes but it is not advanced as the new version? Have you seen the beta in action? Also, Quick Silver is a ripped of version of Mercuary board, the only difference between the two versions is that Quick Silver is a bit simpler and has a bit differnt design. Otherwise the source code is identical to mercuary. Also Mecuary is not that fun to design and does not offer great editing capablity without breaking something, trust me i know.

They are on a RC 4 version I thought PHPBB3 went full install a few weeks ago. So what new as been added or tweak for optimal performance(Don't feel like searching, reading, downloading, installing it)?

Well, it is good that they are working hard on improving phpbb, maybe now the forum/bb will get a little bit more respect back, because as a forum software it wasn't in the first place for a long time, due to different security issues.. But I still prefer to use phorum, due to it is one of the most safest bulleting board systems out there, even though it doesn't offer, but when you tweak and edit it for yourself and use the enormous modules written for it, it is really the best (for me)

Ummm... read the copyright notice at the bottom. Quicksilver Forums is BASED ON Mercuryboard. They share the same codebase, we branched off them. Anyways, I have definitely played around with PHPBB3 since it was still called 2.1.x xboxrulz |

Well it's been a while... It feels like they've been developing PHPBB3 forever. I actually thought that the whole project was dumped.
It's nice to see that the open source forums software is still kicking. Is there a complete feature list available somewhere? |

Is there a complete feature list available somewhere? Have a look at the documentation here : http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/ |

Just because something looks good doesn't mean it is secure! Anyways, I'll stick with SMF/XMB. [N]F |
