more than 3 lines, no spam, decent conent i think.

The tweak seems to work by allowing firefox to open even more connectinos to download through.

did you ever use those Old downloading accelerator programs back in the days of windows95 ?
like DAP (download accelerator Plus)

Lets say a server is getting bogged down with connections, it will split its bandwidth between all the users downloading from it.

hyperthetical situation....

100kb/s maximum server bandwidth.
100 users downloading.
each user has a modem campable of 6kb/s, but the server is sending at 1kb/s to each user.

if one user however spawned 6 connections, they would get 6 times their share of download bandwidth.

but then everyone starts doing it, and connection speeds dont benefit, the server just has to spawn 6 times the number of server threads, so some servers not only allow one connection per IP address, which could be annoying as h3ll if your behind NAT.

This works really well. I have a decent PC and a megabit connection. Firefox loads the pages lightning quick, once I click a link the page is there. And so far I have experienced no problems.

But I'm a bit conserned however... These kind of "Firefox tuning" threads (Pimp my Firefox tongue.gif) will be soon appearing to other than computer related forums. And people will pimp their 'foxes. This will mean more load to servers which will be a bad thing for some sites that already struggle with too much load.

I have seen the tweak in here before: http://windowssecrets.com/
There are many other useful tweaks there and the Firefox tweak is probably the best.

This firefox tweak is awesome so far! I just changed it and it really seems to be faster. I hope there is no security holes in it...
My computer is not very fast so its probably a good thing. Internet is fast though.
Also the one about windows is pretty cool, But the one about firefox is the best so far ;-)

Got another one for all of you tweaking firefox out:

1) Ok fire up the fox  biggrin.gif

Just a heads up these settings make you download sites considerably faster, BUT they put a great deal of overload on the sites you visit

2) type in "about:config" the address bar and then hit enter

You'll see a whole load of options here you will need to change some of the values.
These ones:

network.http.max-connections = 64
network.http.max-connections-per-server= 20
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server= 10
network.http.pipelining = true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 100 or 200 (choose one)
nglayout.initialpaint.delay = 0
network.http.request.max-start-delay = 0

if you can't find "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" your going have to make it. Just right click and hit new integer.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 10
network.http.proxy.pipelining = true
network.http.proxy.version = 1.0

now close down firefox and start it up again.

Now Firefox will burn up the web biggrin.gif

This doesn't make it THAT fast. This makes it even FASTER:

How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Wow! I just did this and I've already noticed an increase in speed! Does this apply to downloads too? What else can be tweaked? This is really awesome!

Yeah, when are you gonna post your next firefox tweak? I can't wait! Thanks a lot for the info! Btw, when you say that the tweaked firefox overloads servers, what exactly did you mean?
