I would have to agree with all of your praises for Nod32. For a long time I was an advocate of AVG but then it started seeming a little shoddy so I started looking for a more permanent solution. Now don't get me wrong AVG is amazing especially considering it's free, but it just was slow as hell over my multiple HD's and missed a few viruses due to its virus definitions not being updated super frequently. I user McAfee for awhile because I got a perpetual license through an employment opportunity I had but eventually I got fed up with the resource hogging and general annoyances of McAfee.

Along came Nod32 and I must say...wow. I expected it to be light weight as its touted heavily amongst gamers but DAMN. Very little resources used and a quick and painless install and setup. Never seems obtrusive at all either. The virus definitions actually get updated 3+ times a day on average and it can on-demand scan all my drives in a fraction of the time it took mcafee and simply killed avg scanning time wise.

All in all this program gets my vote even though its not free. That's literally my only negative about it, but you more then get your moneys worth.

I use Trend Micro PC Cillin Internet Security 2007, i really like it! It doesent take anny system resources at all! Only 1 issue with it, is that you need the newest drivers to run it, or else you get bluescreen rolleyes.gif

I've used many anti-virus program's but none of them was so efficient and quick as NOD32.
So if you ask me it's the best of all !

By the way if you want NOD32 just sent a pm to senekos@gmail.com wink.gif

I suppose that, in this PM, you will explain that NOD32 is free to try, $39.00 to buy, and you will tell him to buy this software.
Else, you cannot post this kind of things here at astahost. mad.gif

I'd go for Kaspersky anyday. After being loyal over 3 years to norton, i am using kaspersky for the past year now, and its way consistent. Fast startup, different scan options plus if you get the internet security edition you get antivirus with it just as powerful as it would be standalone.

Updates are like everyday, and its annoying at times when u leave ur pc switched of for a day because the next day it pops up a message saying that, your definitions are old lol. but atleast it keeps you on your toes to keep updating the AV. Plus where all the antivirus are having problems trying to run on the 64bit version of vista, kaspersky just runs smooth. No problems so far, and a very tight watch over what goes in and what goes out through my internet connection.

I would suggest you guys give it a try, its worth the time.

Regards
Dhanesh.

Im glad you guys got it right as I was getting frustrated by the Kaspersky fanboys. Here is my review from that thread.

As an avid tester of security programs let me furnish my to cents. No more vague bullshit. Lets get a few things nice and clear.

NOD32 is THE fastest and lightest AV out of all the top AVs. Hueristics checked, monitor enabled, it doesnt matter... its the fastest and lightest on system resources among all AVs worth mentioning.

Anyone who says NOD is "pretty" fast/lite, or "one of the fastest", or does not use "much" resources, is not being clear enough! So Once again NOD32 is the smallest/fastest/ ouf of all the top AVs! The entire setup file is abt 10 megs, which is unheard of for top tier AV scanners. NOD is everything you need with no bloat.

As far as effectiveness through overall detection, Both NOD and Kaspersky lead the pack. However NOD was by far the faster scanner.

For the life of me I don't understand why anyone would continue to claim Kaspersky is in anyway better. Better in what exactly? KAV is slower, heavier on resources, and presents some conflicts with your programs (which NOD never does).

I was a Kaspersky user for years before I discovered NOD32 and tested it myself so I am not just talking out of my ass like most posters who only support a program because they are trying to justify having it on their computer.

In addition, Here are some credible and interesting comparisons
http://ask-leo.com/whats_the_best_popup_blocker_antivirus_software_antispyware_software.html
(pretty straight forward testing).

http://www.consumersearch.com/www/software/antivirus-software/
(as you can see the only reason kaspersky is rating higher here is because it was easier to use for the average user. I find this disburbing for to reasons. 1 because the average user is a moron and we are not (the fact that we in a forum questioning AVs suggests that we have some knowledge on how they work and how to use thme). to it acknowledges that there is absolutely no area where KAV is better than NOD and at the same time completely ignores the shortcomings of KAV in comparison to NOD32 (speed, size, efficiency, conflict with software) yet still puts it ahead to due popularity reasons.)

Also, since NOD32 is never in conflict with any software you can download any firewall of your choosing. This way you can run the best firewall outhere and maximize your protection from all sides. Why would anyone not want NOD32 over KAV (which I must acknowledge is certainly good enough for second place no doubt).

I couldn't make this any more clear.

NOD32 Is The Best Antivirus - Best Antivirus
NOD32 Is The Best Antivirus

I have been a NOD32 user for years but with my new Vista setup I had to switch to KAV.

Firstly you cannot use any independent firewall with NOD32 v3. In NOD32 v2.7 the IMON module used a WINSOCK implementation to monitor web traffic. In v3 NOD now uses a local proxy through port 30606. After installing NOD32 v3 your firewall will ask you for each program accessing the web if you want to allow it to access port 30606. If you say yes in order to permit internet access then all the other rules you have set for that app are useless as it is communicating through NOD32 (ekrn.Exe). You can set firewall rules for ekrn.Exe but they apply to every program using the proxy. The only option that allows your firewall to keep functioning properly is to disable Web and Email monitoring in NOD32.

Second issue was with the Advanced Heuristics. On web access and file access they were causing a CPU utilization spike to 100% and overall CPU utilization was up alot also. ESET Tech Support could only say that there was a performance hit for using Heuristics and that it could be turned off.

I'm running an Athlon 64 3700 with 2Gb RAM so this one surprised me a bit. I've read other users complaining about the same thing but perhaps this is a specific hardware issue.

After all that I got KAV v7 and it worked right out of the box. NOD32 is way faster but at least KAV worked without shutting half of it off.

If you are planning on getting an integrated AV/Firewall suite then I would still recommend NOD32. Otherwise beware of the firewall issues and download the trial just to be sure.

NOD32 IS BEST OF ALL
NOD32 Is The Best Antivirus

IT'S THE BEST, MAXIMUM NO. OF AWARDS, IT TAKES AWAY ROOTKIT'S, SPYWARE, MALWARE, ANNOYING SOFTWARES. CAN GET YOUR SYSTEM TO NORMAL FROM THE WORST CASES, EVEN IF your MACHINE HAS SLOWED DOWN. IF YOUR MACHINE IS AFFECTED BADLY, JUST ANY HOW TRY TO PUT NOD32 TO GET ALL BU*****T OUT OF your PC, ON THE NEXT BOOT. IT'S THE BEST. I CAN'T SEE ANY OTHER ANTI-VIRUS.
