I'm not going to lie so I am saying that I was dissapointed in getting a denied application. Although I applaud the reason behind it, I just wish you included this in the FAQ's or in the sign-up screen to filter a lot of people, generally those wouldn't even know how to speak proper english.

I make it a rule to not post replies shorter than 10 words, and even at that, I feel like I'm not doing much to the community. Although the quality of my posts maybe debatable, I'm hoping I do get approved in the future.

Oh, thank Heavens I found this thread before I started a new one smile.gif.

For a couple of weeks now, this question has been going through my head, that I felt I had to ask it out here:

How Come almost 90% of the Hosting Requests Made In The Past 2 Weeks Were Denied?!

Don't get me wrong, I think the Moderators' decisions are quite justified. I'm wondering about the requesters themselves. Why can't they meet the minimum requirements of AstaHost?

I certainly don't think it's because those requirements are hard... quite the contrary... when I compare the requirements to the value provided, I think they're actually too easy.

Perhaps it's laziness? Unfamiliarity with the English language? Could it be mere and plain stupidity? Or is it just the "Get-Something-For-Nothing" mentality that's being largely promoted everywhere over the Internet?

I can't be sure, really. But I think it's something for the Moderators to look into, because seriously, this is becoming a sort of phenomenon. I honestly think it requires soms serious consideration.

Still, on the bright side, since the Moderators are doing such a splendid job keeping away spammers, perhaps things are not so bad. I mean, the "Get-Something-For-Nothing" folk will probably be around for a long time to come; it's really out of our hands. But at least, we can keep them from getting what deservedly belongs to other, honest, qualified folk smile.gif.

And by the way, Opethian, I really feel sorry for your hosting request getting denied. I can tell you're NOT a spammer, and I actually like a lot of your posts smile.gif. Perhaps it's just like twitch said - (I believe he was the one that processed your application) - you just need some time to increase the quality of the posts, that's all. Good luck smile.gif.

Cheers.

[/tab]Opethian - I'd totally agree with Transcendum. Judging by your posts - you've got a very good writing style and that's something we consider first and foremost while reviewing the applications here. For the more easy going kind - we always refer them to try their luck at our sister site Trap17.Com where there are no such restrictions.

[tab]I made a detailed post on the differences between us and Trap17. You can find it here: Switch To Astahost . This kind of explains our basic requirements. I agree, we really need to update the front page to reflect all the policy changes we've had so far. That's a job which has been long pending.

As for the approvals or denials - usually it's only the admins who do it. But sometimes I get really pissed at the quality of most of the post made by the applicants here. On top of that there are occasions like recent times when we get a flood of such applications. Those are the times, I feel like denying ALL - but then again feel really unjust in doing so as I tend to look over even the moderately good ones in the heat of the moment. So I request the mods to sort out some of them on my behalf so it's easier for me to approve/reject from the rest. INothing to be disheartened about - its a proven fact that those who've been rejected on a positive note have always made their way back and got accepted and have been a part of our community ever since. On the other hand - those who're more or less scorned at hardly stand a chance laugh.gif

Anyway - all the best. Hope you make it into our little niche very soon smile.gif

Ok,

I see how many people get denied and i'ld say its 95% who do,
I hope I am not one of them... (I cant be sure but I think I am not),
I do a limit of the size on my posts, probably the smallest is about 3/5 of the
reply box

The all wise admins have spoken, and I agree that they are right. I do not agree that some admins think most of my posts are to short. I am a very good poster and I think that this certain admin is wrong, but I don't dislike this admin. This admin could just be my friend one day. Sorry I went offtopic, but again good job admins.

See thaat post wasn't to short was it? I gave a whole paragraph and that is a a good bit.

I do think it makes sense to post short replies on occassion, but they are a small percentage of my posts. Sometimes the polite equivalent of RTFM and a good reference are complete answers to a question. It does not make sense to duplicate content when another, external page says it well. Of course, I also come from a BBS and newsgroup background where unnecessarily long posts and duplicating content are grounds for flaming.

That being said, even the shorter posts should meet a level of quality: they should be concise and *complete*. As for questions, they should also be complete enough that someone could conceivably help without playing twenty questions. There are a number of good style guidelines for bug reports out there (e.g.: http://www-mice.cs.ucl.ac.uk/multimedia/so...ortingBugs.html). The same considerations apply to any request for help on a forum.

At the moment, pretty much yes. You have to work on the quality (and therefore length) of your posts, as well as use proper English sentences with no leet speak and other gaming/chat abbreviations.

Don't forget that not all topics or replies even need anything more than a one-liner and often doing so, is a waste of words, typing effort, space, sql call for storing a larger string among other things and is just plain un necessary.

Of course you could not post, but then threads would get no where lol.

When Iv'e been posting my application for hosting, I saw people get denied for mainly these 2 reasons:
  • No Posts (No Credit Points)
  • Not good quality of posts
Most people seem to get denied for these reasons.
There are more denies than accepts for what I see...
Hope this was helpfull...
Administrators please feel free to remove this post if you feel fit,

Thankyou
