My friend tried Ad-Aware before asking me for help. That didn't fix what he had either. Very odd. I'm probably going to end up formatting his harddrive if it comes down to it. It'd be a lot easier anyways

I'm not a fan of Spybot. My favourite is Spysweeper and I swear the free version works great!

Actually I don't think the feature exists in Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3. It was in Spybot Search and Destroy 1.2 however

If you absolutely can't get rid of your start page using all the programs mentioned above(adaware, spybot), you need HiJackThis, post the log in this forums and someone will help you get rid of it.

***Ooh, yea, that's the name of it! I kept thinking it was "HackThis" instead of "HijackThis"
Yep, I used that to get rid of the porn dialer he had. When I see him again, I'll get a log file and post it here. Thanks kelp |

Isn't HijackThis! A browser hijacker? or am I just imagining things again?

Check out their site:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ Basically, it just scans your registry, allowing you to delete entries you think might be causing problems. It shows both legit and non-legit programs, so use with caution. |

Thanks for the tip. I used to get my homepage messed with everyday...to this annoying about:blank page with all of these links...
But now I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. I haven't gotten any pop-ups or any problems at all with it. I definetely suggest this browser... |

Another tip is prevent spywares before they can bug you.
Spybot Search&Destroy came with this function, inmunize, you can patch certain areas of the system that can be vulnerable to spywares. If you want more proteccion just download spyware blaster, it can be also inmunize the system for a better proteccion, also has features for ie and firefox, and it's doesn't remain running in the background. Another great feature of this program is something called snapshot it creates an "image" of your system settings, when you computer become infected with new spyware, you can use Snapshot, it help to remove infections. System Snapshot can also reverse the changes of many browser hijackers. Other great feature is restrict sites that are know for spyware contents. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html |
