I have tried phpBB and I prefer it over SMF. I liked phpBB2 better than phpBB3 initially, but now I think that both are easy to use once you are acquainted with the administration panel.

I always liked invision but SMF is very simple and easy to use.

i think phpbb, for easy to install, use, popularity. as you know this is the first for first time. but smf not very popular, although may be better than php
