I absolutely LOVE Google. I use it for literally everything. From homework and research to small stuff like seeing if I'm spelling something right.

Google is perhaps the best search engine there is. Why some people use horrible, silly-named ones, like Yahoo, is beyond me. Google isn't a very capitalistic company either, which I like.

In my opinion, Google is the best search engine on the web.
If your site is on any search engine, it is probably Google. Google is the most popular search engine, consuming about 200GB bandwidth A DAY. If you have your site in the top ten search results on Google, you probably have a big website! There are probably a billion sites or more on Google, and the number is constantly increasing. I search on Google for everything, sometimes Yahoo! Google is the Dominate Search Engine on the web. Go Google! |

I like google's services best because they are number one and preticularily in the relm of google's email service gmail that I feel should be the number one email as it suports pop 3 and is easy to use as webmail. plus it is realy good with grouping all messages of the same fw track together so it is easy to find certian things and i WILL NEVER HAVE TO DELETE AN EMAIL AGAIN

Well, I can't say Google's search results necessarily return better ones than Yahoo--they sometimes do and sometimes don't. It depends on the subject I'm searching for. I do rather like Yahoo's suggestions---for instance, when I search for "momentum", I get suggestions for "momentum bmw", which can be useful if you meant "momentum" in the cars context and not the physics context. There are a lot of times when this happens to me, and sometimes Google catches it, but Yahoo seems to catch it more often. Of course, Google's related searches bar at the very end of a search is quite useful too, since if I were unfamiliar with the concept of "momentum", reading articles on its suggestions of "kinetic energy", "force", and "inertia" might be a good idea.
Beyond its search, Gmail is really quite nice. It can be rather slow at loading at times, but this I don't mind as much since it does have a basic html version that I tend to use if my connection is slow. I rather like the idea of archiving and labels because it really does help me organize my inbox. I tend to have very few emails in my inbox--often times only one or two that I haven't replied to. Whenever I get new email, I automatically file them under the "next" label and then when I get around to looking at them, I either reply and archive it or archive and slap a "later" label on it. This way my inbox is clean and I know which emails I need to work on next. (This is probably the recommended GTD method anyways... Google Calendar has also been nice, though I don't use it as often anymore. It made it nice and easy to schedule tasks and appointments and stuff of the like. It was also pretty fast in loading, which was another plus. I've used Reader a little, and while it certainly is very useful and covered all aspects of a feed reader that I needed, I don't really bother reading my feeds much. (No obsessive compulsive disorder with that one...) Google Docs to me is pretty pointless unless you desperately needed to work on a project with someone else. Otherwise, it's far better to stick to attaching files (and perhaps using track changes?). Personally I'd prefer latex and subversion, but of course no one I work with knows about either... Oh, I nearly forgot to mention Google Books. I love that thing. A lot of times it's difficult for me to go to the library the minute after I find a book I really want to read on the internet. So perusing Google Books gives me some nice (and often long) previews of these books. There are some books that I find I get grasp the general premise of just by reading their excerpts in Google Books. That saves me quite a bit of money (and time). Now as to whether I like Google as a corporation, that is a whole other beast. I certainly don't like certain tactics of theirs (they oughta be sticking to do no evil, right?)... |

I like Google more when I'm searching for general information about something, or a broader topic. However, when I want to know specifics, or a less popular topic I'll use Yahoo, I think its better for pin pointing sites with the information I seearched for where as if I used Google I would recieve resuilts with the main idea, or very general information aobut the search query. I especially like using Yahoo Answers for advise on many subjects of question I have, you can find very specific information on that branch of Yahoo's search, and its all personal accounts.
