You can earn a lot of credits for just one post; it all depends on how much you write in that post. A post doesn't have a single, fixed value for credits, or else there'd probably be a lot of people who just post one-liners and get a whole bunch of credits that they don't deserve.
I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with the credit system; it does reward people for the right kind of things. Although I wouldn't say that length necessarily equals quality (after all, it's very easy to bloat up your post by adding extra (big?) words here and there), but it's certainly a better measure of quality than post count. Just try to find some topic you're interested in and reply to it with lots of explanations and perhaps your insight. Or you could always write a tutorial. Of course, sometimes it's annoying when I discover that I've written something especially long in a section that doesn't count for posting credits, but that's just me not being careful enough to check the category title. |

Luckily the boards have the wonderful staff that it does to make sure that most big, bloaty, pointless posts are removed so that people stick to only making big posts if the information is relevant

I actually have no problems with the credit system here, I never have really really short posts, because most of the time I have a bunch of things to say, so I get 1-2 credits per post sometimes. But if I do have something short to say, I tend to extend it more by giving examples or something to prove my point. If everybody got tons of credits though per post, then this board would be totally dead, with nobody posting.

I never really had any problems with maintaining my credits when I was hosted here. As a matter of fact, I went with out posting anything for around three to four months - during the time I was planning to move over to Computing Host.
This is as close to perfection a system can get. |

Well I'm certainly not the best at maintaining my hosting credits.. Usually my longest posts are about three lines, just because I simply can't stretch my post content that much, unless I really start thinking of the longest usable words and such. Either that or maybe I should just know more things to post.
So now I'm trying to work my way out of negative after a week of inactivity. Even though I'm having a hard time keeping them high, I think the credits system is really fair. Certainly not the easiest though, but... Ah well, I like this place, so no problem. The people are nice here, so that makes it a lot easier. |

I'm really glad to see that pretty much everyone is behind the credit system. This type of system is basically reliant on having a core set of users to keep content flowing to the boards and while there are admittedly times where the content dries up a bit just due to the nature of life, more often then not there are new topics and posts at a pretty steady pace. I think it does require a little work but when I originally joined up I knew the value received was greater then the work involved. If you aren't willing to pay for hosting this is one of the few ways to get a quality hosting package for little effort. woo us! haha

The hosting forums is about quality not quantity so the more you post the more credits you get, I know the max amount of credits per post is 10 and I believe that is the same. Tutorials area great way to earn a lot of credits because they will be pretty long. Best thing to do is reread your post and reread the previous posts and see what else you can add, you be surprised what you can add once you get thinking.

I have no problem with the amount of credits I get per post. It's not like I realy post a lot of (long) messages over here, but even then I can easily keep my credits at about 8 credits (as long as I don't go on vacation
It's all about keeping things alive |

I just joined this site about an hour ago, and its not really hard to earn these credits if you just try and speak your mind in some of your posts. I went and read through the rules, and they said they enjoy quality posts, so if you post in a quality manner you will be rewarded for it.

I too agree with almost everybody here, in that the number of credits earned per post is actually really high. And when you think about it, sometimes I feel as though you earn too many credits per post....I mean....one post and I get like 3-4 credits or more sometimes? That translates into 3-4 days of hosting, which in turn means that I really don't have to post very much in order to keep my hosting going.
So I actually feel if anything, it almost should be the opposite, we earn too many credits sometimes for some of our posts, and it should almost be changed a little bit the other way in order to have the forums become more active. |
