Whoa, so you have a laptop that has:
*no disk drive
*no floppy drive
*no means of internet
*no USB
?

Can't you get to someone's house, and connect a LAN cable, does it have at least a built-in modem? I won't be of much use relinking the pages that were given above, but that would help. How did you work on this machine at all?

[b][font=Comic Sans Ms]HELP Administrator account deleted, need help loggin in to my laptop!!! WIN XP PRO Service Pack 2?
My friend was using my laptop and she says she has no idea what she did but she somehow deleted my account (the only account) so now i can only login as a guest andI have no access to my music pictures. programs, homework nothing, and I have a Toshiba Portege' laptop, it has no floppy disk or cd drive no internet connection, so i have no idea how to fix this, I tried the ctrl+alt+del trick but it will not work the default admin, has a password and i have no idea what it is, I got this laptop used out of a classified ad, and have no way of contacting the person who sold it to me, Someone has to be able to help me please, I am pretty good with command prompt and regedit but since i can only logon as "GUEST" nothing will work, almost everything i try says access denied ERROR 5. please please help.

I have tried safe mode, i have tried command prompts, and regedit but the guest account is not allowed to do anything i keep getting an access denied message, the laptop does NOT HAVE A DISK DRIVE so i am screwed there, the computer did have 2 admin accounts mine and the default "hidden" one, mine got deleted and did not have a password enabled, and i do not know the password for the default one this is xp PRO so it doesnot work if you try to logon with no password, whoever installed the os had to make a password during setup. if anyone knows some way they can really help me, please email me at loca_mami13@yahoo.com

If you dont have any access like USb etc, you can burn a startup CD and boot with that..

As someone already asked... Do you have the capability of BOOTING FROM USB? The laptop won't need any extra drivers. If it is possible, it will be in your BIOS. Check it out.

If you CAN boot usb, there are several linux distributions that will boot up your laptop, give you access to all your files, and impress you with their speed and power, all from usb. Puppy Linux is my favorite for your situation. Their website has detailed instructions for getting up and running.

You need an 'other' computer which has a CD burner and is connected to the internet. And both your laptop and the other computer should be able to boot from usb. You will also need a usb drive of some kind, like a flash drive, at least 128MB.

Download Puppy from the website. It will be under 100 MB. Burn the ISO as an image to your CD-R. Boot the other computer from the CD-R.

Use Puppy's Universal Installer to install Puppy to the usb drive while running on the other computer. Then, use the usb drive to boot up your laptop with Puppy. The world is yours! If you need any help getting started, Google is your friend.

You may find that you like Puppy so much, you won't want Windows back. Don't worry, that's a known side effect of Puppy, and linux in general. Just remain calm, try a few of the programs already available from the main menu, and think of all the money you'll save by not having to buy all that functionality. You'll feel better in no time!

As someone said before, "You don't need Windows if you have no walls!" Try linux for awhile and you'll catch the meaning of that soon enough. It's a very good thing.

Hey loca_mami31, everyone here is offering great advice. I've looked into some.

I have ran into some computer which are that screwed up before. Most of them I had to do reinstalls some clients payed a good amout of $$$ for me to backup their data to DVD's first. I guess it depends on your situation - do you really need your existing data or would it be okay to start from scratch? I usually have to reset password if I forget to ask or if Windows locked the computer due to exceeding the maximum number of incorrect guests, or they simply don't know of remember. For this, I personally use the http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ which has help me out numerous times. I am not sure what is the latest version, but in order to use it you have to read the instructions or the FAQ on the website. You can download the the file, unzip, and burn the .ISO file to a black CDR or create a bootable usb.

Then, unlock/reset the administartor account, then set the password to blank. Save to the registry when you exit. Reboot. Hopefully this gets you in. smile.gif

If it doesn't you may have to turn on your computer and shutdown your computer without logging on. You have to do this twice so windows will properly shutdown and close all system/registry files. I helps if you leave your computer off for 30 seconds and when you come to the logon screen wait like 2 minutes or till the hard drive activity slows down.

In the program if somehow you still can't salvage the administrator account - it happened to one client of mine on XP Home (i even tried using system policies, etc. with no success) - you may have to upgrade you other account to administrative priviages. This will work most of the time too smile.gif

Good luck on your fixing it. If you this works for you, then give yourself a pat on the back cause you deserve a beer.

how abt this
Help: XP Pro Admin Account Deleted! Only Guest Access

Ok your computer has got the least of privileges, but to you it means a lot. How about giving this a shot,

Start your computer and hold on to F8
Get into safe mode
Command prompt
Type "control userpasswords2" without the asterix
You can see the admin accounts on your computer, with a guest etc.

You will have options there, to reset your password, or even create a new acct.
Unless your friend went into control panel, user accounts and then deleted it...I don't know

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING, UNLESS NECESSARY

Good Luck
