Sounds like something you wouldn't want to use for your main internet connection to me.... (that is what I have gathered from the reviews of Neuron, and turbopowerdmaxsteel)
From what I have seen so far....GPRS service in he US doesn't seem to be all that good (for cell phones either), but then again maybe it is just the locations that I have been it doesn't work as well.... |

That offer was for Bihar-Jharkhand only, if I am correct. When I moved to Kolkata, I learnt that the Rs. 99 plan had been scrapped and barring existing customers, everyone would be charged Rs. 240 and given a speed of 64 Kbps. Because of extremely heavy load during daytime, the connection was as good as dead. You would be better off using postal mail than trust on the E-Mail Inbox to open. In the night as well, you wouldn't get any way close to 64 Kbps. I have moved on to Broadband since then. It used to cost Rs. 550 around an year ago and the speed was quoted at 64 Kbps. Contrary to Airtel GPRS, Allicane Boradband did provide 64 Kbps. The connection is highly reliable and the speed - more or less constant. Their Rs. 550 package has gone through three periodic upgrades and currently they have quadrupled the speed @ 256 Kbps.

More dirt on AirTel GPRS..In select Indian cities, it offers unlimited EDGE(Enhanced Data-rates for GPRS) for a month, while in Chennai, the only plan is the EDGE plan, the point being that its the customer's responsibilty to get a EDGE-compatible phone, and the QoS available will be dependent on the phone used to surf. Plus, as far as I know, AirTel has the only EDGE service being provided in India..or am I wrong?

Dont understand about Airtel internet connnection. See, I have been using this connection for about 10 months. But first time when it connected by Motorola V3i,
The speed was so slow as I download (5Kbs) so after few days I changed to use Nokia 6300. with my supprise, the speed was also good , I cant download faster as 20KBs - 30 KBs . That was really good, right? So what happended after that, unfortunately my connection became very badly it turn back to the first time when I subcribed the connection.Someone can tell me about this happening . I need proper information.????????? |

This is not an opinion or suggestion. This is a question,
I'm a novice to Edge/GPRS techs. I've a W600i from US and I've an Airtel pre-paid sim. I took this hearing about the internet connectivity it offers. Now, can anyone tell me how to connect to internet in my laptop with my phone ? I've bluetooth and data cable. How to do the settings ???? please help me. -Santhosh |

I remember the lot of Nokia users I had to deal with. They had similar issues, all because of the lack of a simple procedure to use the Nokia mobiles as a modem for the PC. Doing the same on Samsung mobiles is extremely easy. All you have got to do, is install the PC Studio Software. The virtual modem drivers are automatically installed at the end of the installation. Then you can proceed to the connection phase. Start the application, enter the APN (airtelgprs.com) and dial *99***1# from there. This automatically creates a dialup connection which can be subsequently used to directly connect to the Internet.
In your case, the problem seems to be a missing or incorrect Access Point Name. Here's what you should do. STEP 1: Open the Connection Settings in your mobile STEP 2: Make sure the Access Point Name is set to airtelgprs.com (This is what it used to be 3 years back. I am not sure about now, though. If it doesn't work re-download the Mobile Office setting from Airtel.) STEP 3: After STEP 2, you should be able to connect through your mobile. Open the Connection Settings for Nokia PC suite and enter the Access Point Name there. |
