I'm afraid I'll have to agree with those of you who have tried and subsequently moved away form cjb.net and dot.tk. Their phenomenal popularity allows them to get away with forcing pop-ups and other ad banners to gether revenue. Agreed, they *do* inform the user of these pre-conditions, so the user is fully aware of what s/he is signing up for.
As an alternative I'd like to present these two options: Uni.cc ne1.net both have similar ad-free URL redirection and of course they're quite short. |

I don't like the redirection page that comes before your webpage. Almost ok for me.

freedomain.co.nr is quite good, I use it, bu it is not ad-free. They don't put forced ads on your web site, but you are required (according to the Terms Of Use) to put a small banner that would link to their web site. So, anyone who doesn't have this, better put it Another one is www.co.sr, but they are not as good as they used to be. They change the favicon of your web site, and also put pop-up ads, which is above all acounts. If I remember correctly, there is a way in javascript to kill pop-up adds on your site. Not that I remember how to do it. .co.nr, for me are great. I haven't got round to applying with them, but only having a small button on your site to advertise them is great. dot.tk does have an intro advertisement. You need to click on the skip before you get into the site. |

Yea there is a way to get rid of them but the web hosts find them and find a way to prevent it. I tried a code on 100webspace to get rid of the top banner but it didn't work. I tried all the other ones including a Javascript code thing and still didn't work. I think that once they find a hole they'll fill it up. |

I used to use dot.tk, untill they started they started showing you information about their affiliates before they actually show your website. It's better to pay for these kind of services, and it isn't that expensive.

all of these are great...but i didnt see anyone mention
No-IP this is not the same as the other links that you guys have...instead a url redirection/shortening (which it can do i beleive) it redirects to an ip addres...i use this to host my site on my computer at home. my site is on my hard drive on a simple computer i built that has windows 2000 advance server on it...i used IIS (inertnet information services) to host a folder on the hard drive (folder contains my .htm files) it uses a port that i specify mine is XXXXX this site i believe works the same as the other...but offers a little bit more than some...and i prolly coulda used the other sites or anythign to do that same...but i prefer this site also they use an account...it is all free...you just have to sign up for an account and that will keep track of all the urls/ips or anything you have redirected...you can go in and modify them at any time by logging into your account...it is great |

Dot.TK sucks. I've used it for many of my websites and I got annoyed by the delayed service. Oh yeah www.bashnetwerks.tk is somehow ...not registered? That's exactly what I got most of the time when I signed up for a Dot.TK website. That's why I moved to CJB.NET I think it's the best one because it's the most common compared to the .co.nr and .tt because those are forgettable. A lot of people remember cjb.net better but unless you can find a free .com host, .COM, .ORG, .NET are the preferable domains. All in all, don't go for the two letter domains because they will be easy to forget. CJB.NET is easy even though it's longer than most of them, but the .NET part just makes it easier. Short URL with them .vze.com .2ya.com ---don't use them, i tried them already and tried to get my friends and family to get to my site but they kept forgetting the ".2ya.com" thing, and also they wonder what it even means like .vze?! I think it's pointless. CJB.Net they won't question, they'll just simply go there.

Dot.tk suck majorly, ads everywhere, and actually getting to the site in question is a nightmare, it just keeps telling you the domain is in use.

I agree, especially when you can use uni.cc which also provides DNS, that makes it great! you can integrate it into your astahost hosting, it also has no ads and it is pretty speedy. Fast sign up too and in my case, fast domain propagation, even though i live in a different country
If you are looking for a good free domain service: www.uni.cc |
