the new look of the phpBB site looks great. I think they are gearing up for the release of phpBB 3.
If phpBB goes more cool, the millions of users fill be very happy and get the envy of IPB users. |

Definitely a new look for phpBB users. If the new phpBB3 is more secure as most say, it will have an even broader user base.
MOD Display? You mean like installing new mods for the forum? If so, I'm sure it will take a while before newer mods will be made for it as I'm sure the coding style has changed between the major versions. |

They revamped the whole look after the major disk failure forced them to shut the site down. Signs are really encouraging for phpBB3. Lets see when it goes gold. The wait has been intriguingly long though.

I have heard that no phpBB2 MOD will work with phpBB3. The new version focuses on modularity which will allow easy Modding and lesser conflicts between existing ones. |

Wow...i can certainly say that the new design for the site is really nice....
And, I do hope that the phpbb3 has some default template aspects looking similar to that.... I haven't been following phpbb for a while now, as I switched to other forum software, but I can say that if what was mentioned above, about modularity....is true...I will definitely want to be checking that out...I always disliked the fact that phpbb had all the issues with mods, and they took so much time to put in and so forth....whereas other software it was as easy as uploading a file, and clicking on an install button in the admin panel... [sorry, i got a little off topic there] Anyhow, just to get back on topic, the site looks a lot more professional than it did before, and i give it a thumbs up... |

Nice, the new layout / design thing is really nice. The space-themed image is a little random, but after thinking about it some it fits well enough. It's a really nice image either way, lol. I definately think the layout of their new site is much more appealing and possibly easier to navigate than the last one. I'm one that ended up having to keep going back to that site, and I was getting a little tired of that old layout, lol.
I've also seen a preview and demos of the new phpBB3 they've been working on for a while, and I personally think it's great. I know there are some stability issues at the moment, but that's why they have the beta, right? I'm not sure how styles work exactly, but I'm guessing that entirely new themes will have to be made to work with this new major version update. If that's the case, I'll probably wait a while to switch to phpBB3 (that plus the whole stability and bugs issue, I'll wait for some of those to be resolved). I don't really want to make the switch and have to use the default theme, lol (even though it is nice). If styles don't have to be completely redone, then I'll probably switch right over when it comes out. Some of the styles might just have to be modded a little too, I don't really know. Oh, I got a little bit off topic I guess, lol, but not too badly. |

Hey! That's a nice layout for the new official phpBB site! Doesn't look like they're gearing up for phpBB 3.0 though... I especially liked the Downloads page. : the earlier one was too complicated... And they've updated their favicon, and are using a special character in their title bar, is that safe? Well, in the world of Vista, I guess its all the GUI that matters! But on long pages (features, for example) the simple text on white background doesn't look like XHTML, does it? Could've done with a template there...

The design is quite nice--it looks a lot more professional now. Perhaps the design is the indication of a new era of phpbb. Me, though, I haven't really been following up on phpbb at all (mainly because of the massive bad press surrounding it), but I guess with phpbb 3 it's okay to give it a new start.
Though on another note about the design: rounded corners are a bit overused. Perhaps it would've been nicer if they had come up with a more original design so that they're more likely to stick in customers minds? Ahhh, who knows. |
