do you have cpanel? if so does it have somthing calledd fantastico?? if so you should be able to look under that under Discussion Boards and then PHPBB2 is listed there phpBB2

if you do not have cpanel or fantastico, if you would like someone that can install it for you, you can go to http://forumize.trap17.com/forums and post in the installation section, and someone can help you install it, or install it for you!

Alright mate, you got your phpbb folder from phpbb.com
Upload the files to your ftp folder public_html

(if you want your forum on http://yoursite.astahost.com/forum , make a folder in public_html called forum and upload index.php and the other folders/files there)

First of all, we'll need a database. Go to your cpanel, and then to 'MySQL Databases'

Create a database and a user/password there. Remember these.

Now, go to http://yoursite.astahost.com/install/install.php
(in case you uploaded everything in a folder called forum orso in public_html, go to http://yoursite.astahost.com/forum/install/install.php )

And follow the instructions by filling in your server data. The version of PHP and MySQL can be seen on cpanel's main page.
The database host should be localhost, and the database name should be the one you created, as well as the database username/password you made. If all is succesful, it will tell you to delete the contrib/install folders. After that, you should be able to browse around your forum and make changes.

Try this out and please, ask more specific questions, if you want us to help you out.
I have a lot of experience with installing phpBB, so I can provide you with direct and helpful answers if you ask the right questions. "IT DOESNT WORK" or "I CANT DO THIS" isn't a great lead for me, I can't write everything down and hope that it is clear enough.

Alegis is right, his explanations summerize most of what you really need to know.
Basically, if you are at astahost you simply go to fantastico and and choose the option phpbb2 creation.
If you are at another site, create your own directory, donwload all the files in that directory (let's name it "myforum" and startup the myforum/install.php script and follow the instructions.
Most of the questions are obvious, and as Alegis said the only tricky thing is the server name which you have to guess being localhost.
