I was introduced to Meebo by users on this forum and have been hooked to it ever since. Now, the little startup has added a new feature which surely isn't available in any of the major IM service providers.
The Meebo Me! Widget is essentially a piece of code which you embed into your website code, say in a column to the side of the main content. It allows users visiting your site to chat with you without leaving the same page. The visitor appears as a contact on your messenger list with whom you can interact as he/she is browsing thru your site. Take a look here Whereas, ICQ and other services would allow users to see whether or not a user was online, they would then have to navigate to a separate page in order to send you a message. This is full chat right ont he page itself. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't make any promises on the impact (if any) this will have on bandwidth and performance, but knowing the people and their work @ Meebo, it's sure to be fast and lite ! |

Looks rather interesting. I think I'll give it a shot sometime. I've stopped using yahoo messenger in favor of meebo for quite some time now. Meebo is fast and doesn't need any installation. Also it works well with slow internet connections.

Interesting service. I'll have to see if I would use this with my current site or on the one I'm planning.
Also, implementing a system where a user can contant me directly and see my online status sounds quite tempting and would make for a nice little project. |

Whoa, looks very interesting!
Quite tempting as Hercco just said. And using Flash (7.0 I believe), other than Java applets or other embeds makes it easy to set up and very accessible to site visitors. I suppose I'll give this a shot once I get a running site. Too bad right now you can't customize it's look, but they say in some time this might be available. |

Looks nice, I wouold introduce it maybe if my site had lots of traffic already, but it would look sad there if it was just empty and nobody used it
That's the main problem I see with many chat rooms like IRC on sites, also they sometimes add significantly to the loading time of a page. |
