Java was the first programming language that I learned on my own...no teachers, no friends, just me and the internet. One of the best aspects of Java is the heavy documentation provided by Sun and every other Java developer out there.

Here is a link to a site that lists loads of examples of Java code.
http://javaalmanac.com/egs/?

They have examples of setting up a JDBC/ODBC connection for database use, creating ZIP files for archival purposes, and simply showing you how to use vectors. This site is great for learning the basics and building applications on top of it.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh awesome man smile.gif That's definitely a terrific resource site - and the way they've split up examples topicwise, they're going to help someone who knows java coding a bit to jump straight into a topic and start working on it.

Good one smile.gif

Great! I've just checked it out. The examples are good way to learn a new programming language.

I think that this resource is useful for the ones that know Java already. Because beginner can't understand the code. They don't have to book to guide them (The Java Developers Almanac 1.4)

Awesome, I would say java is pretty good to try to learn on your own, and stuff like this would be a big help to someone just starting out. Awesome

The greatest thing about Java is that it is heavily documented. If you want Java tutorials, why not go directly to the people who created the language?

http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/index.html

There are loads of tutorials on that site ranging from howtos on Beans, GUIs, and Security.

Who needs an IDE to compile Java code under Unix? Just use VI.

But if you must, you can try NetBeans, Eclipse, and I'm sure there should already be some type of Universal Language IDE already installed.
