hi my computer after i shut it down turns itself back on which is annoying and requires me to press the power button in when it starts back up to get it to stay off. i m posting this problem here incase anything serious could be causing it my computer specs are in the specs topic but just incase they are too deeply buried i will post them here aswell. before you ask i can't give a make and model of my computer as i built it myself. please do not call me crazy when you see the size of my page file because its like that since the hdd its on isn't the main drive, and because that one is huge. specs in the code box so that they don't annoy people trying to get to the bottom. thanks in advance.

Did you try removing the Ethernet cable? Just in case it receives a wake-on-lan signal...

Some options are:

1.

To check the bios. Maybe some of the choises in the bios cause the booting of the computer and the start ups.

2.

Refresh the bios.

3.

Run several antivirus programs like Spybot and 1 or 2 other free antivirus programs from the internet.

4.

Back up all precious files and data and reinstall Windows 7 again.

5.

Make sure the start button and the reset button and the wires and the connectors don't cause an electric short cut.

6.

Explain the way the computer and the programs are closed. Maybe a wrong way of shutting down the computer is used.

7.

Change the settings in the bios to prevent the bios to boot again after a mistake and a crash.

well the ethernet cable should not be a problem because i do not have a lan cable plugged into my computer. i have my zonealarm extreme secruity scanning my computer daily and that does not find any problems. i m going to get a program i have called tune up ultilities to check for errors on my drives as well as defragmenting them to see if that is the cause of the problem. this program of mine also shows which programs are set to run at start up as well as scanning the entire computer for problems which it usually can fix. it also has a ultility to check the regestry for errors. so hopefully trying advice from previous posters should fix the problem i will report back once i have checked these things.

Are you sure the power button is not being continuously pressed by something?

Unfortunately, that happened to me once when my local computer technician made some changes inside the case of my computer. When he put the case components back on, it wasn't put back properly, such that part of the case component jammed the power button and caused the computer into a shutdown / start up cycle. And it took ages for us to release that it was the power button being jammed and not the motherboard (or any part of the computer for that matter) that was malfunctioning.
