How To Set Up A Prepaid Iphone - Enjoy a no-contract, pay-as-you-go iPhone! | ||

So, you want an iPhone. Maybe because of the hundreds of thousands of apps in the AppStore, the camera, the music, videos, Internet, and all the other wonderful features. Now, for whatever reason, you can't get a normal contract for the iPhone. Lack of credit could be a reason, seeing as they will require a large security deposit. So what can be done about this problem? A prepaid iPhone.
Well what is a prepaid phone, you ask? A prepaid cell phone, is any phone (not just the iPhone) that requires no signed contract or agreement. Thats right. Just pay your total bill every month and you're good to go.
Although prepaid iPhones are available in many countries, the United States is not one of them. But this doesn't mean it can't be done. Let's begin, shall we?
The solution is actually much simpler than you might think! And it doesn't even require a jailbreak!
So, to start, this only works with the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS models. It could theoretically be done with an iPhone 4, but the iPhone 4 uses a micro sim card, so you would have to find something else to use.
Now, once you have your iPhone, you need a prepaid AT&T GoPhone cell phone. Any will work, and you can find one of these at many stores for as little as twenty dollars. Now activate the GoPhone by calling the phone number provided, or go online and use the IMEI number from the GoPhone, not the iPhone. Now, simply remove the battery cover on the back of the AT&T GoPhone, then remove the battery. You will see a small rectangular card. This is the SIM card. Transfer the SIM card from the GoPhone you purchased, to the iPhone's SIM card slot, which is also located under the back cover.
Once these steps are completed you will have a functional pay-as-you-go iPhone that can make calls. The downfall here is that if you want Internet at this point, you have to rely on wifi. I'm sure most would be just as disappointed by this as me. So let's fix that problem, shall we?
To add a data plan to the phone, we start by connecting to a wifi hotspot with your iPhone. Open the iPhones native browser, Safari, and navigate to: unlockit.co.nz. Click continue, and on the following page click on ‘Custom APN’ and select your prepaid carrier, usually “US – AT&T” (Using AT&T doesn’t require a jailbreak or unlock)
Now click on “Create Profile” to create and download your new custom APN profile.
Now a screen saying you are about to install a new profile will come up. When this happens, click on ‘Install’ and then “Replace”.
A screen will appear saying the profile was installed, and show your new APN profile that was installed. So now you should be 3G capable.
Give it a shot! Disable the wifi connection on your iPhone, then look up to the top-left corner of the iPhone. Next to the carrier signal, you should see "3G" or "Edge". If this is visible, you should be good to go for Internet now too. If this text didn't appear for you, no big deal. Restart your iPhone and your all set.
