EDINBURGH, Scotland – A 19-year-old Scottish man who admitted to threatening his grandmother’s parrot for interrupting his sleep, was ordered by the courts to apologise with chocolates. Stefan McKinsley, 19, pleaded guilty the following Monday to a breach of the peace after his grandmother phoned police Friday at 2:45 a.m. and told them the teenager was intoxicated and hitting the parrot’s cage, Britain’s The Daily Telegraph reported Monday. Prosecutors said McKinsley, who threatened the bird with violence if it did not quiet down and allow him to sleep, did not calm down after his grandmother put a cloth over the parrot’s cage. McKinsley, who spent the weekend in jail, was sentenced by Edinburgh Sheriff Court to buy his grandmother a box of chocolates by means of an apology.

Sounds funny, but it's quite good I could tell you, maybe next time he won't yell on the parrot and won't threat it?

I doubt something like that would ever happen in my country, the police would just come, calm down the teenager

You have to take it as joke folks. Parrots are not allowed to eat chooclate if you enquire to any veteran near you. Parrots and the related species can't digest the chocolate and other milk product items. I don't know how come court orders such thing. I'll never give chocolate to monk parakeet that i have even if court orders. that is like plainly killing a parrot in week or even earlier.

Wow. Thats a pretty strange story.. and it's a bit awkard at the same time. I'm not sure if it would a very, well, correct story. (well, obviosly its true but its not the right decision for the grandmother or the court to take it that seriosly) But, then again, that is completely my person oppion.

The teenager shouldn't have been intoxicated in the first place. I suppose he was lucky to get away with having to give his grandmother a box of chocolates, rather than receiving other punishments e.g. a good behavior bond, a monetary fine. or community service.
