yes, i have webroot spy sweeper. It is great at catching viruses and trojans before they do any harm to your computer. It regulary checks your computer for viruses and trojans. I recommend it fully. =)

Oh, and Reno is also a good one. The new ones are out and they are better then ever before. You should get back to me on that. If you have seen the latest one. Then you know its really good =) :P

Hey Sunny NOD32 is the best but its not free it has a one month trial on it so i think maybe AVG would still be the one to go for thats free, reasonably good at cleaning and user friendly.

I have to say that AVG didn't intsall for me. I downloaded it and it didn't contain a serial number so I couldn't use it! :P Here's a couple of things I found just with a google search:

Avast
Anti-vir (Free)

Hope these help! :P

If I remember correctly, you should get the serial number by email. Did you give them a real email address, and did you make sure that it will get through the spam filters? If not, try again, giving them a usable email address.

I have been using AVG for years, and like it better than I liked Norton or McAfee. Free doesn't hurt, either.

:P One word "Antivir" trust me :P

For Anitvirus the best free one that I've seen is AVG. I have never seen any problems with it and it seems to catch most viruses. I would suggest you suck it up and pay the $30 or whatever for a decent virus scanner though. I usually is a world of difference.

I am betting that your real problem however is spyware/adware. The best programs I have seen for this is Ad-aware and Spybot. I run all of these programs on a daily basis and the computers tend to run 100% better afterward.

Good Luck

I used AVG for years until I got an eternal subscription to mcafee from work :P BUt yea, AVG is pretty awesome so I'd reccomend it

From what I've been hearing, Avast seems to be pretty good. I'm currently using Norton, and trust me, it is really useless. Not at all worth the money - you are better off with Avast or AVG. My past experiences with McAfee keep me away from it, it caused more prolems than viruses!!!

I have had the same problem with spyware and viruses so I suggest the following which worked for me...

AntiVirus: Avast home edition
Antispyware: Microsoft AntiSpyWare, Spybot, and SpywareBaster

Oh my! There must be atleast a dozen such topics that I've seen revealing names of various Antivirus software (again!) ;)

Anywayz, as alwayz - I'll stick to my ever-so-good recommendation - Avast! Antivirus (Yeah, the ! is in the name itself). It can be downloaded for free at http://www.avast.com

There are several versions of the program, you choose which one's the best for you-

  • Home Edition : Best for home/isolated PCs. Use this if you're not over a LAN or similar network.
  • Server Edition : If you're the administrator of a LAN or similar network, you can use this edition to protect all computers connected on the network. Must be installed on a server.
  • Professional Edition : Even with the above free versions, you can make a little donation to Alwil Software and purchase the Pro version, which gets you a handful of extra features (not that you can't live without 'em!)
The best thing about Avast! is its effective on-access protection! It has several modules which can be used selectively. Overall, comparing it with other free Antivirus software, I think is better off on features, as well as GUI! Of course, it integrates into the explorer shell and scans zipped archives, like all you'd expect from a decent antivirus software! And trust me, its far better than Norton - at all grounds!

Just try out Avast! Antivirus. Its freeware, ofcourse. You can download it from this link :

I'm not pretty sure, is it good or not, but people are saying that is good. So whatever. Try if you want. ;)

after that u wll need to download crack to this program or licensy Key form sites like XXXX.com
P.S. i donno about it will be under law or not but internet is Open Soruce!!!
Link: view Post: 91713

Sorry, Aka_Bar, read the rules. Here are only honest people, no one uses cracks.
By the way, you seem not to know what is OpenSource.
A program is OpenSource if the author allows anyone to use it's source. If on my site I put a program I wrote by myself, with an OpenSource readme.txt, it's usable by anyone. If on my site I put a warnint "You must pay a licence for using this software", like Microsoft puts ont it's CD's, it's not OpenSource, even if you find such a CD on the Internet. If you install a program, and the downloaded program says "you must have a legit licence you have paid for it", then this program is not OpenSource, and you cannot use it without paying it.
I love one well-known ftp client, after the trial time it says "the 30 days trial period is finished ; if you are a student you may continue using this program ; if you are not a student you must purchase this program". That's a smart way of explaining things.
So, every program claiming "my software is free" can be legally used. Any program saying "you must have purchased this software" is used against the law if you did not pay it.
Sorry for having been so long, but sometimes things have to be told clearly. Some persons write down programs for their own pleasure and want to share them with otther people, this is called OpenSource.
Some other people try to sell the work they did, they need this money for having food, you should not use their programs if you don't want to pay them.
If you want to use AVGFREE, it's OK. If you want to use the paid version of AVG without paying it, it's illegal. It's as simple as that.

If this has not been mentioned...

Active Virus Shield is giving away 1 year free anti-virus software (fully functioning) full version. Powered by Kaspersky Lab, one of the largest anti-virus providers, and funded by AOL

I suggest to read this document: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/erge...se/report13.pdf . It's a comparison of (non freeware, but if there are freeware version, they'll probably perform almost alike) virus scanners. It seems like Avast isn't as good as I had expected it to be, but I'm still happy about it (I hardly need a virusscanner, I don't visit 'bad' website, I don't have spam in my downloaded mails and I don't use Internet Explorer).

I use Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot and AVG together. I can not comment on how good they are, however.

   Thu Apr 5, 2007    Reply

I usually use a combination of AVG and Lavasoft together. Spybot is an unbelievable program, but it does eat up a load of system resources. If your system is powerful enough, I would definetely slam on spybot as well, otherwise AVG and Lavasoft will pull off the job for you.

AVG and clamwin are what I recommend. AVG is great if you install it, clamwin is better if you want to run it from a usb key to scan systems before you use them in places like libraries, etc. You probably won't have access to fix the infection, but it can tip you off to pick a different machine.

Thanks for the info on portable clamwin. I just tried it, I love the way it's installed on your USB stick and run from there. So, before using your stick you can scan the memory of your friend's computer, it's nicely safe.
I find it rather slow, compared to other things like McAfee or Norton, but I like the idea of running from an USB disk or from a CD.

I wouldn't run it from a CD...it prevents you from updating the virus definitions and leaves you with just the heuristic scanning engine.

You're partly right. The trick is on their website, for people having their own all-purpose CD in their pocket. The interest of a CD is that usually it cannot be contaminated by viruses.
So, the trick is that way : you have portable clamwin on your CD, you copy the files to your friend's hard disk (a small folder, this goes fast), you run it from this folder. If the definition file has to be uploaded, it's uploaded on the disk. When you finish your work, you wipe off the directory, or you leave it for your friend if he is convinced by clamwin.

Mc Afee is not freeware. You have to pay for a one-year licence. As usual you can try it for free during one month, then you have to pay for it.
