Firefox all the way :P

Several reasons

  • Free & Opensource
  • Immensely extensible - very easy to create extensions with minimal knowledge of XUL & Javascript
  • 1000 times more secure (relatively) that 99.9% of other browsers in the market
  • Security patches are announced the moment a hole is discovered
  • Huge online community & support forums
  • Extremely lightweight - loads in a jiffy
  • Tabbed browsing - the best of all :P
  • And the list goes on..........

Ditto, Firefox all the way... For half the time, anyway :P

We have a dual boot, and the internet is connected to the linux portion of it (though to access it on Windows XP it only requires the unplugging and plugging of a cable) to make it "safer", there being a few more viruses made for windows systems than unix ones. There's a few problems though - the ISP has something called "DansGuardian", which I find immensely annoying. It does not block pornography or illegal content, it bans sites like eBay (or did, until I complained and got it taken off the list) and bans sites with something it calls "weight phrase limit exceeded". The hell. Anyhow. The DansGuardian seems not to apply to the little known or used Konqueror, which has subsequently become my mostly used browser. The problem with Konqueror is it won't display flash or java.. Even though we have both installed. So the end verdict is.. Kill the ISP.

Btw.. I forgot to mention.. Don't all of them except IE have tabbed browsing?

Internet Explorer for a long, long time, just because I didn't had any other browser, I've downloaded FireFox recently and I like it much more. It's just much better.

btw, why are you asking? There are several other threads like this.

Firefox for me as well, although its a ***** to load here at work. For some reason the comp takes forever to load it up...shitty ram type I think (as the system specs are pretty)

FireFox maybe is a bit slow that IExplorer, but it's really worth it

When compared to IE - firefox does load slower. But that is because the whole executable has to be loaded into RAM and then run - unlike IE, where almost 70% of the code is already in the RAM .. Windows makes sure that part of code is ever-present in the RAM, and that's what your Windows Explorer also uses in the background for faster operation.

What you see when you load IE, is NOT a full-blown browser, but a mere GUI to those API calls which are already residing in the memory. That explains the faster loads.

If firefox was allowed to pre-load a massive part of its code right at runtime using one of the system level privilege rungs, then the load time would be almost the same as IE if not faster.

Oh yea I know WHY it takes longer, its just insane on this computer here at work haha. Like I hit the exe and just walk away for a couple minutes lmao. But once its loaded it runs smoothly enough so I'd still rather use it then IE...

didn't mozilla proper use to have a preloader? Or am I on crack?... I seem to have memories of it having a quick launcher from the taskbar....hmmm...they should make one of those built into FF

I can't believe someone actually voted for IE. Well i guess some people like pop-ups and propreitary M$ junk Not me tho... I voted for Firefox.

I use Firefox because of the tabbed browsing.
I used to be a fan of SBC Yahoo browser because you could access all the features of the yahoo site by just clicking the icons on the top of the browser, but it crashed alot and I moved on to Firefox and fell in love with it

IE may be a security nighmare but it still has its advantages. Like handling all those plugins. and ofcourse its able to run all the sites ..including ones with ActiveX controls. Now I know its not an excuse to vot for a browser. But my point is that IE isnt that bad after all ..If keep it patching its as unsecure as FireFox. Also some times virus writers focus on IE exploit cause there are too many of those out there.(i know its not just an )

If i were to suggest to microsoft on their browser strategy I would tell them to be more focused on innovation than on monopolizing. Lets see how IE7 works it out.

I voted for Internet Explorer - ain't no other! :P

- still the fastest!
- extremely good looking!
- full operating system integration! :P

I don't like/need tabbed browsing, it only takes space away from my monitor, and I don't like/need pop-up-blocker and all that stuff. It's really nice that so many people are happy with Firefox, but me I'm happy with my good old IE. YES! :P

For me, I've only ever had interaction with Internet Explorer and Netscape...Netscape was always the slower loading of the two, but, then again, this was a couple years ago. I've heard a lot of good things about Firefox, but have never really heard nuch more about it other than it's exceptionality to IE. What exactly is it about Firefox that makes it so much better than Internet Explorer, aside from the thumbing your nose at the big burecratic company owned by the multibillionaire tycoon?

As of right now ... zero votes for Netscape. Do you all remember when that was actually a decent browser - or at least highly preferable to IE? *grins* Wow, that was awhile back.

I use Firefox... and when I can't use it (e.g. at school) I have Portable Firefox on my flash drive so I can use it when I can't! ;)

Firefox is the best browser... free, secure, and open source! Go Firefox!

I was previously an avid Firefox user like most of you here, but have started to use Opera a short while back. I used to love Opera (back a few years ago) but later switched to IE...Mozilla...Firefox. Then here I am with Opera again (the much improved version).

The reason I switched to Opera from Firefox was because it was bombing out on me a lot (shutting down for no reason). I'm not sure if this is all connected, but when it happened to me, my friend also IMed me about it happening to him. The second reason (less important since I'm wary of what I do) is because Firefox is getting very popular now. It's been exploited before and will continue to occur with it's popularity. Still not as vulnerable as IE, but...

Opera loads pretty fast, so no complaints here ;)

So one more vote for Opera (I'm using v8.5 now).

Firefox 1.0.7. I love it. It's way more secure than Internet Explorer...........and besides, the Brushed theme pwnz. ;)

I'm with Fire Fox all the way here. There's this sense of relief whenever I use it compared to things like Opera and Internet Explorer. I find it also nice to have that popup blocker and security inside it. The only problem I find with it is the security might just be a bit too high for normal. I love the features and plugins that can be used for firefox. There's a lot of development that can be done to improve the great explorer it already is. I currently use the Tinyurl bar and changed the skins on mine to make it look unique. If there was something else that I had to choose, I'd go with Opera. Opera is very reliable and fast. Also would be nice if you had one of those registered ones that they gave for free some time ago ;) Both are really great in my opinion, but FireFox gives more for me in my case.

WOW, my favorite one is Opera. WHY?

Because it's very fast. Opera uses many connection to the same server to improve the perfomance. It also support JS very well. Many useful functions too.

The only thing that I don't like is its source code. Opera is not open anyway. And I can't learn from that. It just help me in better "data mining".

For learning purpose, I still recommend Firefox. it's great in that. It's a improvement of Netscape.

Please forget Internet Explorer, it's very slow. I can't stand it. It takes 2 times longer to load the same page.

;)
