First of all, what I found that needs updating. M^E, in the answer to question "Is there any other way of viewing my present Hosting Credits count?", you mentioned IRC. But you left out the webpage that Rebecca pulls from to get this number. I use this page to get the number of days my site will be up and post it on the main page of my site.

Side Note about the previous addition to the faq. You may want to disable this method of access, I think it lets you view the credits of any member, not just yourself, maybe password protecting the page with your user password but giving admins full access?

Any way, I thought we could use this thread to mention updates that the Faq needs, either new questions we think should be added to it or incomplete answers that have been made to questions posted in it.

You're right about that page - that's one of the reasons I didn't put that link up on the FAQ page.. it takes away all privacy.. That link is only known among us.

The FAQ needs lots of input - lemme know who all are interested in working on it, and I'll make editor rights for you so that you can keep adding more questions/answers... Infact, as of now, if you guys get struck by any brilliant lightning of question  you can go list it there under the "Ask Open Question" section and I'll reply to it and include it in one of the faq categories...

Also suggestion welcome in improving the faq - new categories, questions, ideas.. all very much appreciated

Regards,
m^e

P.S. And with this post - I've reached my 1,000 post mark. Yeaaaaahhoooooo

I would love to have the oportunity to help out with the faq, and I understand your reasons for not listing the page. I still think it might be a worthwhile venture to place some sort of protection on that page.

I knew ReBeCa got the credits information from a page somewhere, but I never knew where it was or if it were protected. Can you show me where that is?

Yup surely.. coz if we design that rewards system, people will need an alternative method to quickly find their present credit standing - and as discussed above... it's a serious privacy breach right now - not that simply seeing someone's credits would tell you a lot. But still, protecting the page would be really good.

Szupie: here's the page - http://www.astahost.com/process/admins/maintanance.php?u=

At the end of the url, after the ?u= just add your board nickname, i.e. ?u=nickname to get the credit count.

I'll try and think of some way to protect the page. Does astahost use sessions or cookies to track who's online (or both)?

That page is really useful, and loads really quick. Hmm, maybe you can require a password for the $u, like for example:

Member: ASDFLoL0rzz
Password (MD5'ed): 5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99

Then for the page to spit out the number of days left, you would have to go here:

www.astahost.com/process/admins/maintanance.php?u=szupie&p=5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99

That would tell you the credits remaining. If you have the wrong password, or did not give a value to $p at all, the page would say something like "Invalid Password". Using the MD5 string of a password lets both the user and the admin to access the page, because the the admin doesn't have to know the user's real password to get to that page.

Edit: Oops, that link came out shortened... Now it's fixed.

Edit 2: Arggh!! Why can't it be fixed!!! I had to take out the http:// to fix it!

I was thinking something alon those lines szupie, but the admins (and maybe mods?) need to have access to that page so they can check if the people applying for hosting have the correct number of credits.

See the problem again, is that md5 hash has to correspond to the member's password in the ipb db.. or else we'll have to create another parallel db with all member names and new md5 hashes.. and keep it synchronized with new members signups.. urggh... don't even walk along those lines. hehe...

what we need is prolly some sorta script that can read off the username/pass from the ipb db and act accordingly..
