As qwijibow suggested, due to the number of hacking tutorials and the frequency with which they are being posted, as well as in light of the fact that everyone seems to be making them (or copying them from elsewhere), I think it may be time to start approving them like is done with the tutorials. If everyone thinks this is a good idea, but no one wants to because it is too much of a hassle, I volunteer to take on this duty if everyone agrees to help out when I can't because I go away or something.

Please respond here.

Viz, I think that's is an excellent idea, and I couldn't agree with you more. In the end, it will make our job easier :D Thanks, I am glad you're back :D

Me too. So much changed while I was gone. Both good and bad. But I'm reviving IRC, and if we get the go ahead, the challenges section will fall to order. IPBGaming looks good.

Everything changes, so does this forum. We still have some changes to make, some clearing up to do. But I think all in all it's doing great :D Thanks for the vote for IPBgaming there :D I think approving challenges will keep it more inline and further away from illegal posting :D I'll be glad to see the revival of IRC :D I thought it was very usefull, but I don't open that client much since it uses precious resources.

Yeah, the IRC pick up is a good thing, brings back some enjoyment to the net to speak to everyone again at once, instead of single MSN conversations.

I didnt want to insult Nate, but in all honesty, his hacking challnge was just plain rubbish, and makes the other decent hacking challengs look bad.

for those who havent see it, its a script with a line 'if password == "myPassword"'
and the so called challenge is to guess the password.

If i thought so many of you were going to agree to the extra work, i would have surgested it myself :(

You did qwijibow, in that very topic. I just moved your suggestion here so we could get a consensus and have an Admin set it up.

NilsC set up the forum so it requires moderation for new posts, but not for replies. Thanks NilsC, let our work begin :(.

Well really, the problem for me atleast wasn't that the challenge was rubbish. it required some logical thinking which is ok, but the problem is with those kind of challenges that you need something to check the password. (maybe we need to tell the challenge makers to make sure there is a way to check the password?)

Also, the main reason why I don't like Nate's challenge very much is because he copied the entire challenge (just changed the variables) and when confronted with it STILL saying that he made it himself. The entire structure of the challenge is equal to the batch challenge (challenge nr 10) you can find on learntohack.org. That's what pisses my off mostly. Should we see those as plagiarized challenges?

Should we make the challenge providers provide the answer after a certain amount of time? Maybe after 3 months or so? After all, I think these ought to be learning experiences as well as fun. The answers could be marked with a tag in a later post and an edit could be placed in the first post linking to it. Then everyone could check if they did it correctly (if the creator didn't make a check) and the creator could stop saying who completed it.
