First of all thanks to szupie for the idea. We've a new irc channel for this board on Dal.Net - try joining any of the dalnet servers (irc.dal.net) and join the channel #AstaHost - it's up for a test run and we've had quite a few of the mods already visiting the place. Let's give it a shot for a few days and see if we can use this to help out in the Hosting Support Program... plus it'll act as a much faster alternative for the shoutbox. Flip side is, if this works out well, the shoutbox here will almost die out.. Let me know your opinions/views.
I'm eager to learn about this new "irc" thing and give it a test drive. So I pasted irc.dal.net into my browser but it timed out. Am I doing something wrong?
OPaque suggested we create a channel called Xisto and get all members from AstaHost, Trap17 and ComputingHost to come together there... All three channels and existent now. Feel free to join any of them. Joining is done by: /join #channelname.
Good luck with the project it’s a good one.

You guys are really getting intense here. I stay away from irc because it’s addictive and you burn up a lot of time, especially in the warez department. The kind of devotion I see here you guys all deserve a medal. I have too much responsibility to devote this kind of time.Good luck with the project it’s a good one.
"Warez"--now there's another concept I'm not real familiar with. All I know about that, is that it is some kind of illegal/unethical software.
I have opened up for IM but I don't think I can put a mIrc client on my work computer
I used to go on mIrc about 13 years ago and I stopped after all the exploits there got to be to many to keep track of.

It is kind of lonely there right now.....

4-11 Ill be there
I clearly see the advantages for mods and admins, but my fear is that members will use the IRC channels more than the forums in the end simply to get "help" faster. And that is something I want to avoid.
1. Post good tutorials
2. Explain a big setup/installation/problem fixing process step by step
3. All the rest of cool stuff that we do at this forum and the way we share our ideas.
4. Get web-hosting
5. Think of some really convincing reasons on your own and add them in here ....
Other than that +factors:
1. This represents stream of conciousness which is important for building a strong community where everyone knows each other
2. We could provide help much faster if we were using live chat
3. For unix lovers - IRC's one of the best mediums to get started on unix and know a whole lot about it. Also great place to learn scripting in the various scripting languages that *NIX offers.

I don't know what seems to be wrong... it is irc.dal.net::6667 right?
Jipman and Dooga, if you're still having trouble, try using a different port, like, I dunno :6668?

I don't know what seems to be wrong... it is irc.dal.net::6667 right?try to disable any firewall .. if that dosent help, check if ur IPS blocks some ports as Trekkie said. If everything else fails, err .. i think you could use a proxy bypasser and get through, a little illegal i know, but if nothing works thats ur last resort.
cheers
Everytime I go on...Everybody's offline

Is the channel still #AstaHost ?Everytime I go on...Everybody's offline
Yeap same .. everyones offline except rebeca the bot
QUOTE (microscopic)
That's what we need in the channel - PEOPLEok well, most of the people that come on astahost dont see "IRC" unless its on a post. I myself didnt see it till 2 days later after joining in. If we need people to join us there, we need a visible link to IRC on the website. almost 30% users are the beginners in computers so what link you give them they click there. rest 40% are the daily web surfers, time is imporatant to them. and the rest 30% are like me
It would be nice if you did something about IRC because apart from posting, I guess there should be some means of communication and fun between members. May it be just chat or games on IRC, either ways it helps keep people glued on.
Cheers ..
