Well you should read the rules first before requesting for hosting. Find them at: http://www.astahost.com/intro.php
It's great that you have 21 hosting credits; unfortunately the criteria for your Starter Hosting Package isn't dependent on your credits - but rather on the fact that you've made 10 good posts. So you still have to finish up your quota of 10 posts ( you're not far away - just another 6 to go ) and make another request in here.
Don't worry about those extra hosting credits you got - they won't go waste. Infact if you've a good buildup of credits right from the beginning you don't have to worry about keeping your account alive. They'll come in handy when you've away for a while.

I read the bit at the top of the forum home and it said I would need 10 points for the starter hosting package, so I assumed that in the site 1 post was rougly 1 point.

Not exactly.. one post doesn't always count as 1 point - sometimes for good and long posts you'll get much more than that - possibly upto 10-15 points which help you keeping the account alive in the long run. Unfortunately, when you are requesting your Starter Package - you need, not 10 Points, but 10 Posts. Here's the criteria again...
Ans. Make 10 good posts here. Now the question is how?
1.
We recommend you to post on the topics, where you have lot of information to contribute.
2.
Or post on topics in which you think you can help others. Check out for other's post and If you know something about it, just reply to it.
3.
If you can't find any topic relating to your interests, Make one. Start of a discussion of your own. Discuss about the things you know. When you start topics, just explain some things about it.
4.
Posts are not counted at personal forums like "movies", "lobby" etc which are made for pastime and entertainment.
You're not too far away.. you're at 4 - so you need only 6 more. So... best of luck

All right here's the problem - after so much of motivation you might think I'm toying with you.. but the post criteria hasn't still been met fully. For example take the topic you started:http://www.astahost.com/index.php?showtopic=3522&hl= - that was a damned good article, but the rest of your posts contain just 2-3lines. Such small posts are rarely counted towards your hosting account.... But then depending on the big post your made it might just get you the account. So bear with us for a little while till OpaQue is here - coz he's got the final say in this matter.
