Disabling/Enabling some of Windows features

.:!:. To disable task manager
Click Start > Run > and type regedit, to run registry editor
Find following address: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Crate a new Dword and name it DisableTaskMgr.
To disable task manager give value of 1
To enable task manager give value of 0

.:!:. To disable unread email display on Welcome Screen
Run registry editor and find following address:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
Double click on “MessageExpiryDays” key and give value of 0
Note: amount of value is number of days.

.:!:. To disable Balloon Tips:
Run registry editor and find following address:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
Create a new DWORD, name it EnableBalloonTips and give value of 0

.:!:. To disable Windows XP built-in CD burner
In my computer right click on your CD Writer and select properties and click Recording tab and finally clear “Enable CD recording on this drive” check box.

.:!:. To disable Shared Documents
Run Registry Editor and find following adress:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer \
Create a new DWORD, name it “NoSharedDocuments” and give value of 1

Wow, some of these are quite useful (who needs balloon tips anyway) But some of these are kind of odd... For example what reason would there be to disable the task manager... That makes it kind of hard to deal with programs that go wrong... which is a lot of them in Windows.

Some of those tips are useful. The first thing I do when I completed a clean Windows install is to get rid of that annoying balloon :D

For your Task Manager question. I'm not really sure, but I guess a administrator might want to disallow users to access the Task Manager. It would sound silly though since the Administrator should be able to grant users what features a normal user can access - probably using gpedit (XP Pro).
