User Dhanesh has brought to my attention that one of the reasons our irc channel is so dead so often could possibly be because of the lack of access to irc for most members.

We then came up with a solution then would be easy to implement, and is probably already a plugin for these sets of boards.

A built in java-irc client for all our non irc users :D.
It'd be simple to apply, and would probably use pjirc (a very good java-irc based application).

I've thought of this in the past, but never bothered posting it.

Please give your feedback on the matter...Espcialy the admins, in which control more/less all plugins/themes :D.

Thanks for your time aswell :D.

===On a side note===

When I was talking to a first time offender about copy/pasting...He said he couldn't see the edit button.

Has the ability to edit been removed from posters???

1: We already have a java applet to log in to IRC, I forget where, but it gives the user an asta nickname and logs them into the channel.

2: yes the ability for users to edit has been removed. They should post the edits and report the post stating which post it should edit.

1. I really have no idea where the link to java-irc is.

2. I think we should reinstate the editbutton for some classes of users atleast....

With say 100 posts minimum.

It was quite hard to figure out why one of the users I was talking to couldn't edit his posts :D. I somehow came to the conclusion that the perms had been changed...But do not really understand why this is so necessary

IRC Chat applet was installed way way back by yours truly :D - I even posted the link to it as a new thread and pinned it in the irc support forum.

Secondly - since our board depends heavily on the credits system - imagine one of the regular members - even with more than 100 posts decides to play rogue. He makes a post filled with 1meg of garbage and just 5 lines of useful text on top. Now the credits systems allots him over 100credits and then he promptly uses Edit to clear out all the garbage. He makes a cool profit of 100credits with a post worth maybe hardly 1 credit. Do we really have a way of detecting this ?? No - we dont. This exploit can be abused severely if the word gets out. it has been abused earlier - and it will be if the edit button is allowed to be used. Thus, as long as we're using the current credit calculation engine - we have to resort to the more tedious method of editing the posts all by ourselves.

K, thanks Micro.

That really clears things up...
Still though, the edit problem makes me sad :D lol.

Irc Java Applet

I've been considering the idea of setting up a web page with an IRC client Java applet. Instead of guiding users through the rather involved process of downloading a client program and using slash-commands to get onto #astahost, a member could simply direct them to a link to click to open this a ...more
